Lara, BJS, Cotto, GGG, Trout, Kovalev, Plant, Mundo, and Jacobs on top of a smattering of other champs and contenders and titles in 4 weight classes is better than Holmes' longevity, especially when Holmes didn't unify and avoided many of the top dogs in his era. The only guy Canelo legitimately ducked has been Benavidez and it's still up in the air if he'll rectify that.

Pinklon Thomas, Greg Page, Gerrie Coetzee, John Tate, Michael Dokes, a rematch with Witherspoon, and a rematch with Weaver. In some instances, politics got in the way (a Coetzee bout fell through for example and Tate only briefly held a title) but Holmes' reticence to fight these men also played a part.

IMO Holmes is hella overrated and should be criticized for his actions rather than disrespecting the achievements of others.

People have enough neck to claim things like Holmes was defacto undisputed. When a fighter you respect doesn't earn the achievement, just lower the status of the achievement.

Wlad and Lennox get similar treatment.

Just giving out awards and status like as if they don't matter, then folks want to cry and blame later fighters like Mayweather for single strappers holding out for big bucks. Holmes is your prototype. So the same sort of criticisms you guys are used to reading aimed at Floyd or Tyson Fury I have for Larry.

On top of this, p4p is eye of the beholder. There is absolutely nothing about Holmes than transcends weight or divisions in any shape or form. On acheivement, accolade, and reward he's a low man and on resume in ATG terms he's very middle of the road and nothing special.

Canelo easily, beat better fighters, beat more good fighters, and did it across multiple weight divisions.

Canelo is a bit of a diva but his record compared to Holmes is pretty respectable. Its a different type of record/P4P - I'd say its similiar, I'd understand arguments either way.

    Larry Holmes

Some of those names on Canelo's record should be Ls. Not to mention he didn't fight Golovkin until he was 36 years old. He had the luxury of being the house fighter.

Larry Holmes came through to become the heavyweight champion as anything but the house fighter. Don King tortured Holmes when Larry was a prospect/contender forcing him to take fights on short notice while injured.

A comparison between a good fighter Alvarez against a great who was genuinely dominant. It's Larry Holmes by any measure in the ring.

I would like to dig deeper because this is the Holmes who came out retirement to face a peak Tyson and took on a peak Holyfield in his 40s. I really think politics is a more likely explanation but I am not dismissing what you say at the same time.
