Lewis won gold as an amateur so his career in that was better. As pro`s its closer,Lewis came up against better opposition but he also came unstuck big time twice and looked unconvincing against Holyfield,Tucker,Mercer and Mavrovick(cant spell it)Vittali has dominated every fighter he has met barring Lennox and he was winning that one.
Im still going with Lennox because he did face far better fighters who were all dangerous and as well as the 2 loses he has some impressive wins like Golota,Grant and Tua who apart from DQ losses were unbeaten.

Marciano sparked an old Joe Louis. No one says Marciano is greater than Joe Louis.

Vitali gives Lennox a tough fight. Now he is greater :-( Others gave him a tough fight, why is it Vitali gets so much biased appreciation from fans? :think

Agree on Mercer but not on Bowe.

Bowe mentally would struggle with Vitali just like how he did against Golota imo.

Of course, I wasn't referring to your general post. Just how Vitali dominating everyone isn't that impressive when you consider his level of opposition.

Scotty, Bowe had a very short prime. But showed real heart in his fights with Holyfield. That Golota would also give Vitali massive hassle IMO, before he gets frustrated and stopped/DQd.

    I can't even see how it's a debate.

I mean look at the Briggs fight. Lewis destroyed a prime b
Briggs a decade before Vitali couldn't put him away.

I dont see Vittali knocking out a prime Mercer.I think the Mercer that fought Lewis would give Vittali a hard night.I dont think he wins but he makes him work.Bowe in his prime is a hard fight for anyone.

Lewis was prime when he smashed Briggs though whereas Vitali was pushing 40 and is obviously well past his best like Briggs.

Lewis v Briggs was a good fight to watch.Shannon was nearly world champ in round 1.Had Lennox all over the place. They neither of them ****ed about, just threw big shots at each other.Much better than what we get these days.

Lewis beat almost no one, his best win is over a shot fat Tyson and his gift win over old Holyfield says it all.

What a load of bull Rooster C. The Lewis-Klitschko fight was even. HBO had it 3-2 to VK when they cut to the interviews, Lewis clearly won the sixth as well. I scored it differently to HBO, giving the first to Lewis and fourth to Vitali but you'd have to be pulling for some one to have anything other than 3 a piece. Both men were rocked as well.

Vitali was floored Saunders wether it was counted or not but he did have a better chin than Lewis. Overall I would say Vitali was more consistant and has had greater longevity (although, he hasn't had a live challenger like Lewis did) and Lewis had a better resume and better ability. Lewis clearly had the better amature career but Vitali probably would have won a gold if he hadn't failed a steroid test.

    Golota is a strange one.

He looked the dogs bollocks against Bowe, but was then promptly iced in a round by an absolute peak Lewis, who was in murderous form that night.

I think with him being 6'4'' and having a long reach he could get to Vitali, but as with Bowe (who by 1996 was inferior to a prime Vitali) he'd quit mentally and either be stopped or DQ'd.

Bowe's prime was very short, like Meldrick Taylor's for instance, but he was a special fighter, any man who could beat that Holyfield as well as he did has to be. Let's not forget Holyfield had two top 10 ATG's in his previous three fights, albeit faded but still ****ing good fighters.

I just don't see Vitali being able to overcome Bowe, he's the better jabber, footwork is easily superior, better chin. The big advantage Vitali has is his defence of right hands, Bowe ate them for breakfast, and his own right hand wasn't anything special..... but his uppercut was - ideal against a naturally hands down fighter who likes it in close.

Riddick by stoppage in the championship rounds.

    Amateur resume he is.

Lewis stopped Bowe in the Olympics.
