who do you consider as the winner of jmm vs pac trilogy

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by texboxing00, Dec 28, 2011.

  1. I say Pacquiao and here's why...

After 3 fights they were almost dead even as far as points go... Pacquiao edges the trilogy out based simply on knockdowns. Marquez was on his ass 4 different times in those 3 fights and Pacquiao stayed on his feet.

Say what you want about who won what fight or robberies or whatever but over 36 rounds the more effective punching was definitely done by Pacquiao evidenced by all the 8-counts Marquez took.

  2. Go back and count the knockdowns again :patsch

Not really. Just because someone hits harder does not mean they deserve to win a bout, or have the edge in a trilogy. Effective punching is not just being capable of knocking your opponent down.

There is a large number of irrational fans from both sides (and other fighters too, see Klit, Bute fans etc. for example).

But from my personal experience, it seems that Pac fans outweigh any other fans in terms of numbers on this site.

But I think you're right in that recently, it seems that some of the Pac fans have left (or just decided to not post anymore). The Marquez fight may have had something to do with that.

BTW, referring to Floyd as "Void" isn't a good look. It may seem cool or whatever and make you feel accepted by other Pac fans/Floyd haters, but all it does is make you come across as one of those "irrational" fans I was referring to.

But don't get me wrong, I do realise that Floyd fans do the same, so I suppose what goes around comes around.

Remember 3 of those knockdowns came about in the very first round of their 36 round encounter.

And knockdowns are a lot of the times a single punch, which if you're a powerful puncher (which Pac is, and JMM not necessarily in comparison), can often lead to a knockdown. So 4 knockdowns can mean only 4 effective punches.

I'm quite confident that the more effective punching over the 36 rounds came from Marquez.

    Just my opinion.

Punches have different levels of effectiveness. A knockdown punch is a lot more effective than a clean punch that doesn't hurt your opponent.

This poll has nothing to do with Floyd. Shame you can't be impartial .

you said 2-1 easy well even if you gave all three to Pac they were hardly easy.

One draw, one sd and one md. real easy.

true but you have to credit Marquez for coming back into the first fight. remarkable performance.

And the 3rd fight Marquez was 38 and fighting at a weight he's not accustomed to.

    I agree, no doubt.

But Marquez was still the far more effective puncher in the trilogy (as a whole), despite being put on the canvas 4 times (stress again that 3 of those were in the very first round of their 36 round encounter).

Agreed. But then you also have to take in to consideration that one boxer hits harder than the other, which makes Marquez's effective punching against a very hard hitting, volume puncher in Pacquiao...very impressive. So Marquez's work was equally as effective as Pacquiao's throughout the trilogy. In turn, the trilogy is not settled on who scored the most knockdowns.

Pacquiao wasn't even marked up, looked worse in his beat down of Margarito and cLottery. Look at Marquez's face that's effective punching.

  14. Yea but those 4 effective punches were more effective than any punch Marquez threw in any round of any of the 3 fights.

This seems to be the consensus among the seemingly reasonable people posting in this thread: Pacquiao 1, Marquez 1, Draw 1. Even the poll on this thread is almost dead even when you account for all the bias from either side. One major thing stands out between them if you look at the trilogy as a whole. Marquez was on his ass 4 times.

I think that one tiny thing edges the series for Pacquiao. Taking nothing away from Marquez AT ALL! JMM is one of my favorites and he showed himself a true champion and an all-time great the way he fought Pacquiao, but Pacman comes out of the series just a ****hair better.

    1. Clottey and Margarito are much, much bigger men than both Marquez and Pacquiao. Irrelevant point.
    2. The winner of a boxing match is not declared by who steps out of the ring with the less damage done to their face. Irrelevant point.
