Lets assume that Mayweather is serious about retiring. That leaves Cotto, Cintron, and Margarito as the belt holders. Who do you consider the real deal. If you think it's vacant who do you think is the # 1 contendor.
Why the hell should we assume Mayweather is retiring when he's already calling out people for fights and he gave back his belt at 154? PBF is the man at 147, period, and whoever's next is the #1 contender either way. That said, if Margo beats Williams, he'd be #1. If Williams beats Margo, Cotto would be #1. Cotto and Margo are pretty close to even right now in terms of their recent accomplishments, and Williams is just a bit too far back for a win over Margo to make him the top guy. Mosley hasn't done enough at 147 to get to that spot. Cintron shouldn't even be in the conversation, he's in the second tier of that division.
This is a stupid poll. There is no reason to think Floyd is retiring. Also, how can Cintron even be on this list when Margarito starched is ass and made him cry just like the ***** he is? After Floyd, I would have to say Margrito is the man at 147. He is the only guy besides Floyd who isn't a paper champ, and he hasn't lost a bout at WW since 1996.
There can only be one champion. Therefore if you think that Floyd is the champ, that makes margarito a paper champ.
He fought the champion. Any other way is just an attempt to twist the truth due to some sort of bias. Fact: Carlos Baldomir was the undisputed champion, all the other belts were dropped by the champion at the time. That makes them nothing but paper. Fact: Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat Carlos Baldomir.
What exactly has Mosley done at 147 in the past few years? Not much more than, say, Jose Antonio Rivera...
Agreed. I was just pointing out the elf contradiction of that post. With regard to those of you that said that Mayweather should still be considered champ. He says that he is retired, he is calling out Ricky hatton but I seriously doubt that they will be able to come to terms. His biggest interest is a rematch with DLh which would take place at 154. I don't think that we will be seeing him at 147 any time soon.
I disagree. Mosley, Cotto and Hatton bouts are all available at 147 and will offer Floyd the most money outside of DLH, who has shown no interest in a rematch at all.
A paper champ is someone who wins their title without beating a beltholder. Margarito won his WBO belt by beating the WBO champion(Whether or not you consider the WBO a legitimate belt makes or breaks this argument). Floyd won his WBC belt by beating the WBC champion. Cotto won his title by paying the no.2 contender "step aside" money and beating the no.1 contender for a vacant belt. Cintron won his title by beating some no name, undeserving contender to win a vacant belt.
Mayweather. His retirement was a sham. Margarito is the #1 contender, then Mosley, then Cotto, I guess.
Do you see them coming to terms though. Floyd expects both men to bow to him at the negotiating table in the same manner that everyone bows to DLH. I don't think that either of them will do it.
Welterweight champions: Stinks, then Judah, then Baldomir, then Mayweather. It's not that hard to figure out.
