Another question... Why did JT never become a superstar? Great skills, can talk ****, p4p and moved up weight divisions, was in a bunch of exciting fights...

    Don't understand tbh

he was very poorly disciplined and wasnt dedicated to the sport.thats the general feeling anyway.also that loss to jones did him no favours either

Losing to Jones was a minor hurdle, but losing to Griffin twice damaged his career. Added on to his defeats to Sam Peter at heavyweight, he's lost a fair few big fights that if he had won, he would likely be higher on the ATG list.

Losing to Griffen did hurt, but losing to a prime jones shouldn't be held against anyone. I think Toney has had a great career, but wonder how much better it could have been if he was more dedicated. Still, he is one of my favorite fighters to watch, and is always willing to fight the best. Floyd has had some great wins, and no matter what anyone says, he does take some risky fights. I don't think you can easily place either of these two fighters accurately on and all time great list until they have been retired for a bit. Both are so polarizing they can cloud peoples judgment

Always thought this guy could have been the best of the last 20 years but he didn't have the drive to do it. Great quote machine however.

Im pist off at Mayweather and ive always liked Toney but this isnt even close. Mayweather by far, Toney was too inconsistent thru the years.

Add to the fact that he was fighting in divisions that were largely unpopular and the time he was established.

I voted for Toney just for the hell of it as well.

But when you look closely at it, Toney has fought and beaten Barkley, Jirov, Holyfield. Mccalum, Ruiz

His resume his pretty damn good and his move up in weight was pretty extra ordinary. I can't believe some of the shots he took from Sam Peter

Mayweather, this isn't even close. James Toney was far too inconsistent, lost too many big fights.
