no - people turned on calzaghe because he never fought hopkins in his prime. and thats a blessing considering how old man hopkin's made him look bad.

no-one's "pissed off about pavlik". he's becoming as popular as gatti with his style.

don't make excuses for calzaghe - he's made plenty already.

I think it has more to do with an accumulation of 15 plus years or stuff ....

Why bother talking about this fight? Its a joke! Jones hasn't got a hope in hell of winning. Its just a blatent money grab by a guy too scared to put his undefeated reacord on the line against a live body. No real boxing fans should want to see it.

I guess voters consider that Calzaghe doesn't need people to hope for him. Might also translate into people's total lack of confidence in Roy's chances. Oh well...

Time to play Devils Advocate here.

You've got Calzaghe, Frank Warren, Don King and Mark Taffert all saying that Hopkins vs Calzaghe was a done deal in 2002, until Hopkins demanded double the money the day after the deal was struck, leaving the fight dead in the water.

You've also got records of Jones Jr saying in and around 2001-2003, that Calzaghe and DM both were good fighters but didn't bring him the box office potential he needed.

Five fighters that I can recall have actively called out Joe Calzaghe.

    1. Lacy
    2. Kessler
    3. Hopkins
    4. Jones Jr
    5. Pavlik.

And I get the feeling he will end up fighting Pavlik after Jones Jr.

(Yes, Froch called out Calzaghe but who the **** cares?)

Really people turned on him for not fighting Hopkins in his prime ?? When was Hopkins prime ? Apparently he was shot after his losses to Taylor ..Another thing its not Joes fault that this fight was never made before back in 02 there was an attempt but Hopkins was as always difficult to deal with ..This is one of the main reasons boxing fans never got Jones /Hopkins 2 ..Joe can't be faulted for Hopkins stuborness ..

And I don't need to make excuses all this bs that he's a bum intensified after it was found out that Joe had no intentions of fighting the next flavor of the month .And thats not to disrespect Pavlik but he just won his first title ..Give him time .

Stop disrespecting a great fighter ..Yu may not like how he fighst but the accomplishemnst can't be denied .Stop Hatin !

People aren't turning on Calzaghe cause the Hopkins fight was boring. There is many reasons why people don't like him but I'm pretty sure nobody blames Joe for making that fight boring. He was clearly the only one trying to make a fight of it. And even if you hate the guy you can't deny that when he is in the ring he wants to trade with everyone.

do you think big fights are made because the world champion label applies? or do you think it happens because 2 fighters - who hold world titles and are recognised on the world stage - find a common ground because it is financially viable and viable to networks and their promoters?

if you believe in your point of view then you'll be able to defend it without saying i'm "hatin'"-

that's the realm of the small minded.

    so it's your call.

When Calzaghe was fighting Hopkins, I was 100% certain he was gone win, but I can't say the same about this fight. Jones altough way past his prime still has some abilities that can throw Calzaghe off his game plan. I will still pick Calzaghe to win, but Im not gone stake too much Vcash on it. Its a 65/35 split in Calzaghes favor.

Well rgeardles of what they bring to the table no matter who it is if it don't make dollars it don't make sense..This is why Jones Calzaghe is happenening and this is why Hopkins Calzaghe was made..Now unless you can give some examples of where a fighter like Kelly can bring both to the table I will take back my earlier statement ..In this day and age $$ comes before anything else .Thats the boxing world we live in today ..
