Just thinking about it earlier, as to why I love it. Decided to scribble up my thoughts, it's here if anyone wants to read it - http://sportsbowski.wordpress.com So what is it that makes you sit through Anthony Small fights, and cherish the good?
Haha yeah, me too. Obviously, as everyone knows the title should be 'why' do you love boxing, but I was too busy skimming through Big Aud's autobiography to fully pay attention to what I was writing.
I thought you were inferring that the title - 'who do you love boxing' and my avatar - Audley Harrison, matched. Meaning you were saying that you love Audley Harrison boxing, in that humorous ironic tone you often use. "haha me too" I replied, a cheeky retort to your attempted gag.
I don't understand mate, it's too early & I'm in work hungover. I was saying that your thread title matched the pic of Audley with his degree.
You're a writer . . .pay atention! I hear what you're saying about the violence Mart, but for me it's not about that. Today's boxers are yesterday's Gladiators. To show the courage and the spirit to enter that ring with the most skilled, the fastest and the most dangerous men alive is the ultimate physical challenge. I appreciate that many of yesteryears Gladiators did not have the option when it came to stepping into ancient collosiums to fight but the mind set once inside was win or die and for this each and every one needed courage beyond the understanding of many people alive today. Fear is not and was not an option for these guys. This is what boxers today have to prepare themselves for and the adrenaline that is offered up just from watching is what does it for me. A boxer cannot rely upon one single aspect alone when he is in that ring. He must use his power, speed, agility, reflexes and brain all in equal measures to be successful. It is the ultimate strategy 'sport' and the consequences for getting it wrong can be life changing (or even ending). Anybody who is interested in boxing for the violence alone (I know you didn't say you were) is missing a lot. Add into this the build up to a big fight with the drawn out negotiations, trash talk, mind games and the fact that everybody has their own opinion that they can't help but share with the rest of us loyal followers and you have a 'sport' that simply cannot be beaten. The intrigue, suspense, uncertainty and excitement make this the best 'sport' in the world. PS - It was a left hand from Haye that had Valuev wobbled in that 12th. :happy
Cannot be bothered writing this out agian but here's my thoughts on why I love the sport... http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173574
