Who do you rank higher between two of my all-time favourites: McCallum or Nelson?

    Mike McCallum

    - 49 wins to 5 losses and 1 draw (36 wins by KO)

    - Major world titles at 3 weights (l.middle, middle, l.heavy)

    - One of the very best lightmiddles in the history of that division

    - Key wins include Julian Jackson, Donald Curry, Michael Watson, Sumbu Kalambay, Jeff Harding

    - Showed his greatness in the first two fights of his trilogy with James Toney while past his prime

    - Losses include Sumbu Kalambay and James Toney. Arguably only Kalambay beat him in his prime

    Azumah Nelson

    - 39 wins, 6 losses, 2 draws (28 wins by KO)

    - Major world titles at 2 weights (feather, superfeather)

    - One of the best featherweights of the postwar era

    - Key wins included Wilfredo Gomez, Juan LaPorte, Jeff Fenech, Gabriel Ruelas, Jesse James Leija

    - Showed his greatness in his two fights with Jeff Fenech while past his prime

    - Losses include Salvador Sanchez and Pernell Whitaker, two of the true ATGs of the times

    Thread Questions

1.Who was the more impressive/effective fighter overall in their respective primes? Was McCallum a better lightmiddle than Nelson was a feather, or vice-versa?

2.Who has the stronger resume? Who had the better career with greater accomplishments?

McCallum, a better more complete boxer, resume is closer, but overall I prefer McCallums win list and the Toney fights speak volumes about him

    1. Pretty close prime for prime. Perhaps McCallum had the better all-round style but both were very effective at their favoured weight and very difficult to beat. I think McCallum edges it, avenging the only defeat he got in his prime.

    2. Again McCallum, his achievements over three weights from light-middle to light-heavy just trump Nelson. McCallum was the better fighter post prime.

Two terrific modern fighters though and there isnt too much between them but McCallum edges it.

    1. I think Nelson was better. His fight with Sanchez proves it imo.
    2. Again Nelson for resume. McCallum for accomplishments.

But you could flip a coin and the result would still look right.

I dunno mate, Nelson in the second Fenech fight is about as good as it gets for post-prime brilliance. Even better than Hopkins-Pavlik IMO.

You're right there. Not saying he was bad post prime just thought McCallum had the edge.

What has that even got to do with anything?

You're correct to point out that it has no relevance to the thread-question, but what is even more ******ed is that he ranks Juan Manuel Marquez higher than Mike McCallum. It takes a truly foul and diabolical mind to come up with a statement like that.

I like chewing broken glass more than I like people who rank JM Marquez higher than Mike McCallum.

I see you voted Nelson - can I ask why that was?
