There was no "QUIT" in Dempsey's make-up...

True, but it wasn't in a title fight.

I have Liston in the 7-9 range and Dempsey in the 10-12 range on my heavyweight list. I think their resume's are comparable to a degree. Both men did their best work en route to the title and while Dempsey clearly had the better title reign he never faced his best contenders in Wills and Greb. The Patterson wins edge Liston ahead for me.

95% of all my rankings come from Résumé. Going just off that, Liston's best two wins are greater than Dempsey...

What makes you think that Patterson was far better than Gibbons, Miske, and Sharkey? In terms of skill Gibbons has Patterson beat imo.

Is there any real evidence he took a dive?

Depends on what you think is evidence hence why I said it's likely he took a dive.

Ali said Patterson was the most skilled fighter he ever fought. I understand you have an agenda against Liston but none of Dempsey's victims even come close to Patterson and anyone with an ounce of objectivity see this.

There’s no agenda. You got told the facts about Liston and you didn’t like being wrong.

It’s clear you’re the one with the agenda since you seem to agree with the assertion that Patterson was far better than Gibbons, Miske, and Sharkey. In terms of all time standing in the heavyweight division I’d agree Patterson was better but he isn’t far better. Sharkey is pretty close to him and I think might even do better against common opponents. All 4 certainly had better chins.

Patterson is not way better than Sharkey. Sharkey has wins over Wills, Godfrey, Carnera, he certainly did better against big heavies than Patterson.

Liston and Dempsey are close very comparable

Liston was an old man when Dempsey first picked up the title, but in his prime I think Liston does a job.

If you're going off resume wins, Dempsey beat Hall of Famers Jess Willard, Billy Miske (three times), Georges Carpentier, Jack Sharkey, Tommy Gibbons and Battling Levinsky.

Liston beat Hall of Famer Floyd Patterson twice.

I rate them both on the 11-13 tier and don’t really have much separating them. If forced to choose I would say Liston by a hair

Do you think he has a better résumé or are you just being difficult and using HOFers?

We're talking about who ranks higher. I listed the Hall of Famers Dempsey beat and the Hall of Famers Liston beat.

How is that being difficult? Isn't that one of the things we always discuss here with these matchups?

And Liston never crushed anyone the size of Willard to win the World Title. That was a pretty impressive win, most notably given Dempsey's size.

Dempsey gave up 58 pounds to Willard. Liston was 24 pounds heavier than Patterson.
