Golovkin proved he's greater. 20 consecutive defences. Martinez arguably lost to Murray (who was destroyed by GGG) and he lost to old, tiny 154 specialist Cotto who ducked Golovkin himself.

H2h Golovkin easily. Martinez wanted no part of him and clearly avoided him in the later stages of his career, along with Cotto, Eubank Jr, Quillan, and almost everyone from that era.
Resume wise- Martinez has better wins. But also more losses. Toss up.

Golovkin ranks higher. Forget the fact that he's got 20 consecutive defences, that he's been ducked like Ebola and that a lot of the names he could have had aren't on his ledger because they ran away. Fact is he's largely destroyed his opposition with contemptuous ease and it's only now that he's entering his twilight, that people are starting to run him close.

    comparative look -

    number of defences - 3G 10, sergio 6
    3G wins

titles - 3G has 3 , sergio had at the most 2 plus a ring trinket.
    3G wins

    reign length - 3G 2014-2018, Sergio 2010-2014, 4 years each
    DRAW

elite scalps - 3G has one elite draw, Sergio has one elite win
    Sergio wins

looks (if that measn anything to you) -
Serge really with his bronzed blue eyed argie look. 3G looks like the MAD magazine mascot.

So overall its 3G on accomplishments, though you should add a waver that Sergio is better H2H.

if you include looks then you might argue its a draw but thats not my thing.

Everyone has their opinion. Mine is that you prove your greatness when you take challenges.

Sergio Martinez has wins over higher quality opposition, and every time he stepped to the highest levels he never left any doubt who was higher level.

Golovkin, does not have the wins to elevate him above Martinez. All GGG has are several wins over C and B level opponens. It's unfortunate we didn't see him in other challenges,

3G has done more, to answer the tite of the thread, but has yet to prove he is better H2H than sergio.

Who was his wins over higher quality?.....Pavlik?

Pavlik had 1 stand out victory over Taylor, other than that his reign at 160 was tepid up until facing Martinez to say the least.

i think Golovkin is the better fighter,
however sergio has had the better career at elite level so far

you cant discredit martinez too much with Cotto as his body had failed him by then,, a healthy martinez destroys cotto
