you have to look at their top ability. Like you cannot discount 3Gs top ability is to draw with an elite.

Its wrong to both discount one guys top win, AND discount the lack of the other guys comparable top win in order to argue that the other guy is better.
You ought not to write something deliberately wrong.

In the ring prime GGG beats prime Martinez. Resume is a toss up because though Serge has better wins he also lost a couple.

This is not horrible logic, imo.

Martinez fans might argue that he was shot against Cotto (of course nobody gave Cotto a chance going into that fight) but the better argument, imo, is that the Pavlik win along with a close loss and emphatic redemption vs Paul Williams trumps everything else because maybe GGG doesn't beat those guys? Or maybe doesn't beat both those guys?

The more I dig into this the more interesting it gets.

So let's give GGG the last Canelo fight and call it his best win. Pavlik is probably Serge's best win. Which is the better win? Would Canelo beat Pavlik? How about Jacobs and Williams? Which is the better win?

I still think GGG catches up to Martinez and stops him, assuming both on the best day of their lives, but GGGs resume may let him down.

    Good thread.

thing is, if 3G can top Canelo then he will pull ahead of Sergio on all accounts, not just number of defences.

And then believe you me, 3G will set his sights on emulating Arthur Abe's defence record after that...and then Haglers.....you will all see.

Martinez 's prime was too short a period. If his prime had lasted longer than this, he could have been put into the HOF.

People tend to forget Golovkins Elite Amature Career...think both he and Martinez would be hard to split...but if Golovkin at 36 defeats the so called A side in a younger Prime Canelo he will go down as one of the Best Middleweights we have ever seen....

You know his challenges/opponents at 160 are no worse than Hopkins don't you ?? Take out the welters that moved up to challenge him, his resume at Middle is just as bad, never done him any real harm. Look at Monzons resume, look at Haglers, again welters are the only elite atg's on his record. None have natural 160lb atg's on their record have they, why so different with GGG I wonder ????

Right now Martinez has a slightly better record as far as big wins go. H2H it's GGG though and I think by the end of his career GGG could match him for resume as well.

Do you mean like getting stopped off Margarito at 147....drawing with Cintrob at 154....losing to Williams at 160....you mean that top level ability.

You honestly need to take a step away from getting involved in topics you know **** all about kid.

    Not at work again?

Even if GGG had gotten the 'W' like he should have, I rate Jacobs at his best as better than Canelo.

Canelo is a fantastic little boxer to watch, his defence has really started to impress me the more I watch him ... but ... Jacobs is bigger, faster, stronger with a fat tank of gas and who isn't afraid to use his mobility offensively.

Canelo is OK with outpointing a guy, Jacobs looks to snap guys in half.

    How I see it, anyway.

why are you deliberately not looking at his top wins, and yet you are pretending to be doing so?

Are you going to try and pretend something else next. you going to pretend I'm not a 3G fan when all the evidence says I am. ok, go with your fakery.

I'd side with Golovkin but Martinez was a very good fighter, I reckon at their absolute bests it would have been a really good fight.
