Who Do You Rank Higher Roy Jones Or Bernard Hopkins?

Roy Jones Jr. Hopkins doesnt have a calibre fighter of Toney or Hopkins on his resume.

Hopkins. More consistent overall body of work. Jones feasted on a lot of cab drivers and plumbers. And you never saw Hopkins get annihilated, knocked out cold, like Jones did.

 

Hopkins middleweight run was no more impressive then Jones run from middlewieght to heavy. Except that Roy fought hofers. The only hofers Hopkins fought were welters in Tito and Oscar.

 

I gotta say Hopkins, by a hair. He has the overall stronger resume, by a hair, and when it came time to put up(After back to back losses seemingly ended both careers) it was Hopkins who rallied with 3 great wins out of the tail end of his career. Tarver knocking out Jones while Jones was past it ended his era. The Bernard Hopkins effect on boxing has lasted long past Hopkins own prime.


This, in my opinion, is Bernards edge. They are neck and neck though. Tomorrow, I might say Jones cause of the Toney win.

 

You could argue it either way for resume.
But for me Roy in his prime is clearly the better fighter..more dominant and capable in a H2H sense.

 

For talent and natural boxing ability Jones. But Hopkins has the better resume for me and has proven more in his career, particularily the way he has continued to perform at the top level well into his forties. For me its Hopkins by an inch.

 

its a toss up for these reasons, but for me, hopkins ranks higher.

 

tough question but it's hop for me. not a shameful end but in opposite. i would say he would have rough up roy pretty bad if they meet before tarver. jones felt it and never fell for this.

 

Jones close but clear in my opinion... Titles from MW to HW, one of the most insane boxing talents ever in the ring, and beating Hopkins while they were both near prime, gives Jones the inch in my opinion.

I losses Jones suffered don't really have much to do with it, he was clearly past his best.

 

Jones I find it more impressive when the man has actually beat Hopkins and became Champion in 4 weight classes including Heavyweight as opposed to 2 with Hopkins. Only reason this is questioned is because Jones has struggled since 2004 losing 4 fights while Hopkins has continued to beat top level guys and lets face it the majority of Hopkins best wins came in the last 5 years. There different types of fighters though, Jones was built or speed and reflexes they dimished and so did he. Hopkins is a more skilled fighter but by no means a better one.

Though I have to admit, if Hopkins beats Adamek, I think he surpasses him. Think about it...

MW Champ (title defense record, oldest MW champion ever), LHW Champ, CW Champ. Beat Johnson, Jackson, Tito, Echols x2, Joppy, Holmes, Eastman, Oscar, Wright, Tarver, Pavlik AND Adamek. Plus when you factor in the age in which he did all of this...WOW!

So for now, its still Jones, but Bernard does have a chance to surpass him in my eyes if he can make this deal happen.

 

I would have to agree with you here... They arent far apart now, a big win and a CW belt would put him above Roy in my opinion
