Japan are one of the top nations in the world now at this boxing lark. But who do you rate as their best pound for pound fighter? :think

Right now, it has to be Uchiyama

I think he's slipping a little. At this stage I think I'd favor Miura in a rematch.

Inoue for sure. He's top 10 P4P for me and relatively clearly so (#1 in two divisions simultaneously; fresh off beating the #1 at 108 and #1 at 115, skipping right over 112!).

Yamanaka and Uchiyama are great too. Miura and Tomoki next up then a big gap after them until the others in the poll.

However, ahead of most of the poll options and probably even all or most of the four fighters I mention right above this sentence, is Kazuto Ioka who has been criminally left off the poll. The dude is a great fighter where his action fights and great finishes should have ESB'ers jumping up and down... if only they ever watched his fights or knew the men he was beating. If he beats Reveco this month, he leapfrogs back into the clear #2 P4P of Japan spot in my eyes.

There is an option on the poll that says Other (please state) so if you wanted to vote for Ioka, you click that , and type Ioka in the comments section. But since you voted for Inoue anyway (and nobody to this point has voted for Ioka) then what does it matter of he is listed individually on the poll or not?

You listed 9 fighters on the poll. Several of them are clearly and without debate lesser accomplished than Ioka. That is all.

But when 'Others' gets a load of votes on the poll in kind of ruins it. And I'm pretty sure nobody would vote for Ioka

Everyone being serious will vote for one of the top 4 anyway. People messing about will pick a Kamada brother so the filter is there for them, and prospects seem to get rated highly around here, so people who base their pound for pound listing on who they favour head to head if they was the same weight, can pick one of the prospects. Which left one spot and being that Kono is a current belt holder and Ioka isn't I went with Kono.

No. You boxrec'd by "Japan" and by "Pound for Pound" on their rankings search.

And boxrec for some reason has never ranked Ioka so you just forgot about him.

It's OK... Most people on these forums are trolls who don't know a single fighter you named so it's chill.

He would murk Miura in a rematch. There is no evidence of him slipping.

The Kaneko fight is some pretty good evidence, especially the way Jomthong then went on to beat Kaneko. Also the multiple injuries and the way he needed rather major surgery on his hand last year (for a recurring issue).

For what it's worth I have Miura beating Uchiyama in a rematch. The improvement Bomber has made since joining Teiken has been remarkable.

    As for the Poll...
Murata, Naito, Koki and Kono have no right to even be close to the list. On any ground. I understand a very, very weak case for Tomoki, but it's weak at best.

    At the moment...I'd go...
    Yamanaka (resume)
    N. Inoue (skill)
Uchiyama (combination of resume and skills)

I also give Tanaka a lot of props for his skills, but he'll have to get through his upcoming test before talk of a list like this.

I understand the argument for Ioka but I thought he was lucky to beat Yaegashi and he's not looked good as a Flyweight thus far.
