2 of my favourite, very entertaining fighters. I love Saad, it's horrible what happened to him. I actually prefer Marvin Johnson, but it's bloody close. I hope he's doing well. But to answer your question

Imo it's Saad, his Résumés better. He's also got the better of MJ in the series.
Just a rough draft of my top 30 LHWs there colored in

Obviously, Saad has to be rated higher than Johnson.

He kod him twice and held the WBC title consecutively for 2.5 yrs.

Johnson did hold a version of the title 3 times but made just one successful defense.

Johnson had longer longevity but Saad had a higher peak and a better resume.

I'll leave it to others to rate where they belong in the overall LHW scheme.

Rating Mustafa Muhammad over Saad is somewhat of a joke.

Saad also beat Johnson, Martin and Mwale, who were probably Mustafa's best victims, and he was much more consistent than Mustafa. And his overall resume is better.

I would rate Galindez above Mustafa, as well.

I think he's very underrated and would beat a good few people on there.

Eh there's some good points, but it's not a complete list. It's a tough draft, I just pulled names from my memory and put them in a rough order.

In terms of who was better, I have no doubt Saad was better than Johnson - he beat him twice after all. In terms of who was greater, Saad's title reign from 79 to 81, relatively short though it was, was one of the most memorable in light heavyweight history and he packed a lot in - a title winning effort over Johnson plus 7 successful defenses including his unforgettable match with Yaqui Lopez, plus two wins over John Conteh. The quality of opposition was high and the action was magnificent. Johnson by contrast managed one defense across three title reigns. His best moment was his win over Galindez, but he lags behind Saad by quite a way in my view.
