After posting in another thread about the 2 greatest fighters in the traditional 8 divisions, I had a hard time chosing my number 2 lightweight. Between Benny Leonard and Pernell Whittaker who do you guys rate higher as a lightweight and as a pfp guy?

You can make 2 choices one for pfp and one for LW.

I got Leonard for both but not by a massive margin.

I got Pea 15-20 alltime, top 5 lightweight. Maybe 3 or 4 cant remember where I slotted him.

Benny is like 10-15 alltime and my number 1 at the weight.

Better resume and greater longevity would be the two main reasons why Leonard is better.

Anarci...Benny Leonard was by all boxing experts who saw Leonard in his prime...The greatest boxer/punching lightweight seen since Joe Gans [the old master]....Leonard was considered by Ray Arcel, and others, at least the equal of the later day Welterweight Ray Robinson [best fighter I saw]...Benny Leonard reigmed for SEVEN years as lightweight champion over what is considered the richest lightweight division ever...Such as Lew Tendler,Johnnie Dundee, Freddie Welsh, Johnny Kilbane,Charlie White, Ritchie Mitchell, Rocky Kansas, Joe Welling etc..It was said that Leonard to get fights would have to "carry opponents ' to get return matches, so he could keep active... Leonard retired undefeated as champion in 1925, having had about 212 bouts, against the very best of his top opponents, who he dominated, for seven years...In modern times, I rate Benny Leonard, Ike Williams, and Roberto Duran, in their primes, as the 3 best lightweights,of the modern era,1918 and up....Hope I helped....

 Ranking Lopez amongst the top 30 greatest fighters of all time is no more absurd than crediting Alexis for being on even terms with Pryor at the end of the 13th round. Sorry Patttterson.

I had Pryor by at least 4 points.

This user name isn't to stay in hiding, it's just my older account is unattainable at this moment in time...for whatever reason.

Well i actually am one who thinks the fight was pretty close with Pryor, in fact Arguello had him out until the famous black bottle incident, And Lopez is a possible top 30 ATG definitely top 35.

The fight was very competitive and is amongst my favorite of all time, but on a round by round basis, Alexis needed a knockout to win. If you have a scorecard at hand, I'd love for you to post it so I could have a little look.

Ricardo Lopez falls short according to my main criteria when ranking fighters and therefore he'd struggle to make a top 100. According to me, anyhow.
