i'd go with jones over hopkins cos the man was truly awesome in his prime, but the steroid thing with jones bothers me....did jones use steroids during his prime years? and if he did, would he have beat toney as comprehensibly as he did?
the steroid rumour bothers me. i'll go with hopkins. it was a close thing anyway.

Hopkins,he stayed at one weight for years and took on all comers.Jones was a great fighter but he was very reluctant to fight Dariuz michealsawski.

Jones is the better fighter and has the better legacy imo.

Hopkins did have the lengthly Middleweight reign but he fought alot of fighters who didnt deserve to be in the ring with him, also he should have moved up to 168 or even 175 alot earlier imo to make his run.

Jones breezed through the divisions and beat very good opponents, alot of people discredit Jones's victory over Ruiz but i say this.....how many HEAVYWEIGHTS have beaten Ruiz like that?

And Ruiz has beaten alot of good heavies too. Ruiz is awful to watch but he is a good heavyweight.

Jones has lost to the best in the division:- Calzaghe, Tarver and Johnson.

Hopkis too lost to Calzaghe but he has also lost 2 fights to Taylor.

As the previous posters have said Hopkins needs a Adamek, Kessler, etc to challenge Roys legacy imo.

The highest tribute I can pay these 2 is that they would have been able to fight in any era with all the greats, Robinson Leanord etc (in their primes).

Jones is the most talented (14 world champions beaten, 7 current, 4 divisions)

but....Hopkins has won me over with his discipline, his stubborness.

I say Jones edges it and not suprised its a

60/40 split in votes in favour of Jones. He was the best fighter I have seen from my generation. Its remarkable that Jones was P4P for a decade...

people forget when you are in the spotlight and the best....everyone watches you and tries to figure you out.....the fact that Jones was the best for 10 years...is excellent.

Hopkins is a chameleon....hes changed his style to suit his age.....he was an exceptional aggresive fighter upto the age 34...afte rthat he became a stout counterpucnher/defensive master.

Athleic commisions always test fighters every fight...Jones tested positive and Hall tested positive for the same substance which was in a drink called RIPPED FUEL....which isnt a performance enhancer...if anything it is the worst thing to take if you are a boxer because it raises the heart rate

link for people who want to know what Jones and Hall took.

Jones is a top 30 ATG, probably makes the top 25.

Hopkins is top 40 for me, maybe cracking the top 35.

Better resume, better overall fighter in his prime.

Jones was the closest thing to unbeatable fighting machine we have seen....that lasted 10 years of virtuoso consistancy hardly loosing rounds when beating 14 World champs(7 current) in 4 divisions...thats unpresidented.

What makes Hopkins special is being able to fight at Elite level at such an advanced age.

Jones made us say "WOW" for his skills in his prime.

Hopkins "WOW" becaus ewe cant beleive an old man did that.

both have a place in my heart.

I hope a young buck comes along who can replace those 2.

I think to there is too much emphasis on their H2H. Given that Hopkins circa 1993 wasn't the great fighter that he came to be. The timing of that fight is very favourable, on reflection and perhaps unfairly, to Jones.

I would say Hopkins. The one Roy beat is not the prime hopkins we have seen.

Roys prime came early while Hopkins is hard to tell because he is ageless.

Resume is Hopkins and achievements with Jones with most people. i wouldn't put to much on the chess match they had as Hoya said.

People ask questions about Roy about his level of comp and what not while No one questions Hopkins on his career.

I tend to think Hopkins with his long rein at middle is better than roy has done.

I think fighters that stay at the same weight and reign like hops did taking on all comers show they are more adaptable.

Jones could move up and pick his fights if he didn't like what was in the division he could leave (not saying he did)

SO if Hopkins had beaten Jones do we give ROy the excuse he was too green also?

Hopkins was an aggresive beast at the time and the fact that Jermaine Tayloy good squeek by BHop in 2003 tells me that 2003 (Jones did Woods in 6), would most likely have beaten him.

You could say Salvador Sanchez beat a green Azumah Nelson...lets scratch that one of his resume.

The only thing wrong with Jones Hopkins at the time was that they werent huge stars. They were still world class fighters.

He doesn't mean scrap them all together but to take it into consideration when reviewing the 2 fighters.
