Who do you rate higher: Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones Jr?

JOnes pretty easily. First of all he had a pretty easy time with Hopkins. If Jones had stayed at middleweight, we might not even be talking about Hopkins right now. Then to go one and be the best fighter at two higher weight classes and win a piece of a championship at heavy is just above and beyond anything Hopkins has done.

roy jones was awesome in his prime, and one of my favourites, also he beat hopkins, but hopkins has shown he has been in his prime for most of his career, he has beaten some quality boxers, and his boxing longetivity and always taking tough fights makes me rate hopkins higher

 

Jones for me, but its one of those cases where you cant complain too much if it went the other way.

 

RJJ, simply because he achieved far, far more.

 

Resume wise, i think hopkins has the more impressive names / achievments.

But for my money rjj is the better boxer who i rate higher, not just because of the win over bhop, but also the manner in which he won the majority of his fights - eg against an atg like toney.

 

No it's not. RJJ has beaten better opponents, include Hopkins himself, proved himself the supreme light-heavyweight over a prolonged stretch of time, and won a heavyweight belt (I refuse to say he was a champion at heavyweight).

Hopkins spent most of his career holding one portion of the middleweight title in a weak division. A division so weak, that he had to bring up smaller fighters to beef up his opposition after he unified.

 

Im a huge Jones fan, hes te best ive ever seen in my lifetime, but I have a soft spot for B HOP hes not as talented but hes the most dedicated pro ive ever seen.

and going back to the RUIZ win. I agree Ruiz is **** heavy, but hes a top 10 even today. He should have been the champ again vs Valuev and has beaten some excelelnt Heavies. The only time Ruiz has been annialated is by TUA.

Jones dominated him. And no matter what anyone says that is some accomplishment considering Jones wasnt even a natural Light Heavy. There is a reason why middleweights dont jump up to Heavy every decade. I can garuntee there wont be many who do what Joens has done for a long time.


Interesting if he beats Adamek, that would be a tiem to retire.

Roy - Hopkins, Toney, Tarver, Ruiz

 

I disagree. The sport is about effective punching and ring generalship.

I thought the bout was difficult to score, I felt Hopkins let it slip away (close would go to Calzaghe I felt). I thought Hopkins had done enough, but probably not enough to get the decision. I have not rewatched the fight though, but what I am saying is that 114-113 is not horrible scoring considering the course and outcome of the fight.

 

one last time for the nuthugers:

Roy Jones never beat a unified, undisputed, or linear champion in his whole career. Not a single one.

He handpicked 98% of his fights refused to take risks and sat on HBO PPV fighting meaningless mandatory fights during his Prime years instead of challenging the best.

 

Great fighter, but this is also my problem with Jones. It puts a clowd over his legacy.
