of course he is the worst h2h. he's the smallest. it doesn't detract from the fact that he's accomplished a whole lot at the lower weights and that he may possibly be the best of the four. i'm sure hearns & hagler are the most popular of the four which is understandable.

 

It's not even debatable.

Look on the recent favourite fighters thread in the classic forum. He practically appears on every list, and more often than not, in the top 2.

Every one of losses is backed up with an excuse.

 

Duran

 

Personally, I prefer Leonard, but I can't begrudge anyone who picks out any of the other fighters. They're all phenomenal.

 

Duran started his career in the late 60's and established himself as the fighter of the 70's, he then beat Leonard, Barkley, Moore, Cuevas, and others in the 80's.

With Leonard, Hagler, and Hearns being the fighters of the 80's, what did they do in the 90's to compare to what Duran did in the 80's? Halger did nothing as he retired in '87, Leonard was dominated by Norris and Camacho, and Hearns beat Hill in '91 and then became virtually irrelevent for the rest of the decade. Duran's peak was before the fab 4 fights started, and at a lower weight. You need to understand that and not simply compare how they did against each other.

 

Duran is considered to be the best latino fighter of all time. That alone means he's better than everyone else of the fab four.:deal

 

Ray Leonard is a better all round fighter than Duran in my opinion, but Ray can't **** with Duran's longevity and resume. Not many fighters can.

 

Maybe not longevity buyt SRL's resume is better. He beat more ATG fighters.

 

Buchanan and De Jesus at 135lb, Ray Leonard at 147lb, Moore at 154lb, and Barkley at 160lb.

Duran got all of his work done in a variety of weights, and some when he was obviously past his prime.

Both have great resume, but only Duran has great longevity.

I can't believe people are going for Duran even tho he managed to beat Ray and was one of the best LWT Champions in history. Ray Leonard was ****in amazing, handspeed, huge Boxing IQ, class, footwork, chin, power, everything...

 

As I say, Ray Leonard was the better fighter in my opinion when considering ability and intangibles. However, you ultimately have to prove it in the ring over a long period of time, and Duran scaled several weights, beating great fighters like Buchanan, Moore, and even Leonard himself. He is the only fighter to hold a win over peak Leonard at Sugar's optimal weight.

It's easy to see why some have him higher P4P than Sugar.

 

The thing about those four, though, was that they were in their own way the best. Hagler was the toughest, most dedicated ******* you'll see; Leonard had the slick skills and the ring generalship; Hearns' raw gifts - speed and power - are pretty much unmatched in history; Duran was all but untouchable at Lightweight in his prime.

I hesistate to vote for any of them, but Duran would probably be ranked highest P4P, although I think Hagler was the best H2H. I feel sorry for Hearns, as his one glaring weakness let him down over and over again; if he had a solid chin, he would have whooped all of them. Leonard, I think, was fighting a very jaded Marvin Hagler and got a fortunate victory, and Hearns showed he wasn't unbeatable in terms of his boxing skills.
