Lewis has the resume and was undoubtedly a pugilist specialist lol

Tyson was a phenomenan between 85-90, arguably the most exciting newcomer to boxing there has ever been - he was remarkable.

looking back on there career's you have to rank lewis higher than tyson but if you took a prime tyson (around the pinklon thomas fight) i think tyson would not only have beaten a prime lewis but could have beaten any other heavyweight in history barring a prime ali.

i know not many will agree with that but thats just my opinion even though i am a massive lennox lewis fan.

    Legacy - Tyson?

And what do you mean by "lasting effect"?:huh

  4. I agree with you. Tyson was what DLH is today. Lennox is by far the better boxer but Tyson was a spectacular draw for the sport. I rank both in the top 5 of greatest heavyweights

    Better career accomplishment - Lewis
Better legacy in the sport - Lewis
    Better human being - Lewis

Better in his "prime" - Tyson
    More dominant - Tyson
    More entertaining - Tyson

Wait a minute. Tyson is barely top-15, WTF? In my view, all at their prime, Tyson score an extremely high number of wins over the other great HW's in history. Certainly, I think Tyson would have took care of Lewis prime vs prime.

In terms of accomplishment, I think its open to debate. Lewis beat every man he faced, yet he got sparked by guys who were in his league. That never happened to Tyson.

I think Lewis is third on the list of most defences for the HW title, behind Louis & Holmes, so there's a strong case there.

However, Tyson dominated the division like only Joe Louis did before him. He cleaned up & was head & shoulders above the rest of the division.

I honestly don't know who ranks higher in terms of all time greatness. However, I notice a lot of people are quick to shout Lewis rather than Tyson & its not as simple as that.

In terms of H2H, Tyson, for me, ranks higher, no question!

Lewis was the better fighter, IMO.

Tyson is one of the best physical specimens to ever enter the ring but their records are not very comparable. The best person Mike Tyson beat was probably Razor Ruddock.

Lewis, clearly. More dominant, more skilled, far far better resume. I rate Tyson highly h2h, but p4p for me it's not even close.

Not even close. Lewis is top 3 (or at least 4) in my book. Tyson is about 9 or 10th ATG HW.

Lewis for sure... But I still say if they had of fought when Tyson was 20 he would have knocked Lennox out!

this thread comes up every few months or so it seems. depends what criteria your judging by: i give lewis the nod based upon better wins and overall career, but tyson for head 2 head, prime for prime.

    Tyson beats Lewis how, exactly?

Because I am struggling to think of an answer.

Lewis and it is not even close.

Better resume, better wins, avenged his 2 losses, retired on top.

If you talk about accomplishment and who was greater as a fighter/sportsman it´s Lewis.

But if you mean historically, in terms of fame and impact on the sport and it´s popularity, it´s Tyson.

If you talk about who was the greater man, it´s Lewis. Tyson was and is a lowlife, bully and a coward and simply a very dim witted man. He liked to demolish lesser fighters but was cowardly when faced with true greats. His criminal record and biting of Holyfield and Lewis is pathetic too. Lewis on the other hans is eloquent, smart and for the most part a decent role model.
