if your anything like me, you may have a hard time telling each other apart in respect to their great boxing careers. both the perennial hard workers who fought everyone and still have such right to be called great despite the large shadow of archie moore and ezzard charles. i honestly do know anything about either one except from the records on boxrec. it seems williams actually fought much lighter then marshall until catching up in weight, 5 years later and beating marshall 2/3 in their arguable primes. but i still am not convinced entirely that williams was the better fighter. marshall resume has many name fighters, including many wins over great fighters that williams did not fight. of course this is all coming from boxrec , to those who know about the two old time fighters, how do you rate their careers and styles?
Williams probably, although his wins over Marshall are questionable. Marshall's win over Holman seemed to be the most decisive. I certainly don't think either of the two established any kind of superiority over the other in their series and whoever was better should be based on their overall records.
I like Williams. I think that's going to get turned around in the next two years because of the footage of Marshall that has emerged.
the Market Hall in Carmarthen in Wales gets all the big names in, eh ? marshall fought an old tommy farr there. also, re: marshall....anyone who beat charley burley, ezzard charles, la motta, williams, joey maxim, freddie mills must have been no joke eh ?
Nothing this week, it's just possible now to see him box on youtube and elsewhere, whereas no footage of Williams has emerged (though there are rumours).
Oh, okay. I was going to say "Nobody tells Uncle Boxed Ears anything anymore." Farmboxer just told me, get this, that "Void is Void". :conf Who knew?
