Tough choice for me. Both guys beat a lot of good men. Berbick retired with a few less defeats.

Berbick for me but admittedly, I have seen fewer Weaver fights than Berbick fights.

I would say Weaver. I love Berbick to death, but Weaver had more significant wins and some incredible efforts in fights he lost as well. Additionally, he didn't fade away as quickly as Berbick.

Again, I have to say, with how many tools Weaver had in his toolbox, all he would have had to do to be one of the ATG's is dial up his aggression.

Berbick probably has better single win over Pinklon Thomas. But Weaver has more quality wins over Tate, Coetzee, Williams, Mercado, Tillis, edges it in his favour IMO.

His draw with Dokes, a fight most scored in his favour, is also a big string to his bow. Most would have rated Dokes the second best heavyweight in the world at that point. I rate it well above the likes of Tillis, Williams and Mercado. It also showed he may have been a bit unlucky in their prior fight.

Yeah your right i did think of it but didn't mention it because it was a draw, but your right it definitely adds to his resume since most had him winning by a few rounds. I might rewatch it again in future because i've only seen it once and never actually scored it properly.

All this. Weaver had at times what I term a bizarre sleepwalking fugue state. The grand majority of the Tillis fight was like that (Weaver should have had him in 12), and it cost him in his mostly victorious rematch with Dokes (which I still have him winning by 3 points).

He had a punch as hard as Tyson, but...I don't know, maybe his trainer in the 80s didn't inspire him enough?

I really love Mike Weaver, and he was a much better human being, but in terms of resume and h2h, i think i gotta say Berbick.

Maybe on Weaver's best day, but Berbick was more consistent and harder to knock out.

I'd much rather watch a Weaver fight, though. And he definitely was more shredded than Berbick fwiw.

It would be interesting to see how you score it as you are quite a good scorer of fights.

Mike Weaver was the second-best heavyweight in the world for a few years.

    Berbick never got that high.

Too bad they never fought. Seems odd that they managed to miss each other.

But Weaver is the higher rated of the two for me.

The guy had stamina, he had power few had, he had handspeed, good foot movement, he was economical, he had good defense and head movement and blocking, he was a great body puncher, he had a sensational jab, perfectly chiseled, he was proven to come out on top in some disastrous situations; we know he had the ability to take some beatings. If he had been more vicious, he probably would have been another Bob Foster, except even better.

Good question that would be good to look into is why he wasn't aggressive and IF that had something to do with his training or not. Plus, given the instability of your best 80s heavyweights and that Weaver wasn't all coked up like everyone else, he could have destroyed everybody in the 80s, barring Holmes, Tyson, and maybe Witherspoon--but even those might be different stories.
