. I would agree. that is not what I said.

Benn beat a european to become WBC champion (galvano) Thats euro level and lost it to a south african- thats comonwealth level. his other title was won against dewitt a bottom teir American contender who was USBA title level at best.

What seperates Benn from eubank is the higher profile wins over barkley and mcclellan.

They aint Nunn, jones, Toney or mike macullam are they?

which is why he is ahead of eubank.

There was an established opinion of who you had to beat to be regarded the best though and Eubank was not close to them.

Benn and Eubank largely avoided the traditional old school route of national>Euro>world, though their initial flurry of fights between them and Watson were all worthy matchups between upcoming potentially world level contenders.

Herol and Tiozzo turned down big money to fight Benn in '88. Eubank wanted Benn at that time.

I think Eubank has to be ranked higher, and Nigel Benn is one of my favorite fighters of all time and I am not a fan of Eubank at all.

Oh because Brendan Ingle said it, it must be true.

Eubank stated post-fight Cronin that he was 'the only fighter in Europe who probably can beat this man - I know how, I have to know how' regarding Graham, and pre-fight Graham-Jackson 'if he wins that WBC belt, then yes, I would fight him, I would have to' regarding Graham.

According to Johnny Nelson, Eubank knocked Graham cold in 30 seconds in March '89. Graham had never been down before - gym, amateur, pro or exhibition.

According to Eubank, he 'played with him, beat him up' regarding Nelson.

In Benn's book he said Mendy, Maloney and Marsh offered Graham £200,000 to defend his British title. Herol's purses had been buttons compared to that.

    Not really for me.

I liked Benn better & heavily rooted against Eubank vs everyone he ever fought, I hated the guy... but he was a better fighter than Benn thru 2 h2h battles & did better vs common opponents.

Ps. I have admiration for the heart, skill, chin & will of Eubank now that he has retired & has had his beatings that I so craved... I just could not stand him when he was active & undefeated, he got on my nerves.

Ive always thought reasonably high of Benn, just for the record.

A lot of good points in the post & I agree with most of what you said here... but Eubank didnt come anywhere close to stopping Calzaghe, at no point in that fight did this happen, I dont know where you got that from tbh.

The last seconds - one step back, one uppercut, and it would've been over a few seconds early.

    :huh

Eubank was stopped by Thomson (he fought great tho & didnt want to be stopped, I know this) & was clearly defeated by Collins both times on points, whats the script here, PP ?

The script is I thought he won 1 of the Collins fights at the time and the first Thompson 1. He wasn't that far off stopping Thompson either

Many of Eubanks fights turned into a complete joke, just like the persona. Eubank cut corners in training for a lot of his title defences and so he never won as convincingly as he could of. Infact, I honestly thought there was so many decisions that stunk so badly that these were WBO/Hearn fixed. Eubank was their only headline getting champion at the time - WBO was weak and unestablished back then (not that they're any better now), the WBO enabled Eubank to **** about with boxing. And yeah, Benn had some dodgy decisions, as well, but nowhere near as many. Eubank is the undisputed winner of the dodgy decisions.

Benn improved a lot after the first fight against Eubank. I think he became a more thoughtful fighter - he wuz robbed in the second fight with Eubank. And Benn beat possibly (we'll sadly never know) the top man in Mcclellan. After the fights with Benn Eubank just wanted to make money, but in doing so ...using the least effort possible. WBO/ & Hearn enabled it. Shame really, cos I reckon if Eubank had really given a **** about boxing, like Benn did, I think Eubank would have left the sport as a legitimate ATG - I don't think he's that. IMO

One thing about Eubank ... I think he had the all round ability (the chin essentially) to have done better against Roy Jones Junior (I think was the best of the bunch), than if Benn had fought him.

So for me, Eubank can never be rated over Benn - because he didn't really give a **** about boxing. It's all 'what if's' with Eubank. Once he became a champion he just saw boxing as a money maker. Eubank is tarnished by shitty decisions and trying way too hard to come across as some intellectual egghead whom was anti violence. What a *****!

Benn is a legitimate boxing warrior. A fighter that wanted to entertain the fans by putting on a decent show & fighting the best. That counts for more than anything Eubank stood for. Surely

Some people strangely not answering the question.
