Whitaker's first real lose came against a prime Oscar, but he was already past his prime and still gave Oscar a very tough and close fight.
His first real convincing lose imo came against Tito. But that was like 2 years after the Oscar fight so by that time he was way too past it.

Sweet Pea right now but if Floyd comes back and has a couple high profile fights against fighters in their primes, that could change

Pernell is a top 20 all time great fighter in any and everybodies list. Thread started by a Floyd hater as usual. Whats next, Ray Robinson.

I would go with Whitiker ,if he had been awarded the decison on the chavez fight alone this wouldn't be even mentioned in the same sentence .

    Incorrect, on all counts.

Firstly, I am not a "Floyd hater", I'm actually more of a fan than hater.

Secondly, apart from the tendency to overrate fighters from the past when comparing them with fighters from the present, I think there is a legitimate comparison to be made here.

Floyd - 6 world titles at 5 different weights, RING fighter of the year 1998 and 2007.

Whitaker - 6 world titles at 4 different weights, RING fighter of the year 1989.

On ESPN's 'All Time Greatest Boxers' they are seperated by just FOUR PLACES with Floyd @ #48 and Whitaker @ #44.

I don't think it's as much a disparity as people are thinking.

People love to forget what Floyd has accomplished in the ring. I give it to P, but it ain't really that ****in wide.

It is really wide. Pernell fought them all. Mayweather has not. Big difference.

Yeah. Everything you wrote, I agree with.

I would only add that it is not close at all.

Everyone who voted for Pretty Boy needs a lesson in something.
