I must admit, I thought Martinez was a joke at first, but he seems to be getting better and better. Just imagine If he was 10 years younger with the same work ethic and notoriety.
Well alot of people use to say that about ODLH in his lighter days.. I dont agree he still makes the same weight that the other guys do, dont feel it should be used against them, just makes them that much more dominant. Martinez isnt as tall as most of his opponents but hes filled out to a strong solid MW... I see your point though as he moved up to face a much bigger Pavlik.
Martinez fought Cintron..we will know he won, Paul Williams 1 most people had him winning, Kelly Pavlik W, KO'd Williams in their 2nd fight and now beat Dzi by TKO. All that in 2 years. You have Donaire who KO'd Darchinyan in 2007 and now KO'd Montiel this year over Martinez? Come on
Martinez last 5 fights. Dzi Williams Pavlik Williams Cintron Donaire last 5 fights. Montiel Sydorenko Marquez Vargas Concepcion
:huh I am suprised this is so one sided, I mean 14-1 for Martinez? Like i said earlier i could see arguments for both.. Nonito seemed to cement his #3 ranking a few weeks ago.... Martinez beat Dzinurik who was not as highly regarded as Montiel and now every one is picking him? Short term memory? Lot of weed smokers out there:rasta For as impressive as Martinez win was. Nonitos win was quicker, more explosive and against a consensus top 10 pfp fighter.
Martinez for now but theres no stopping Donaire quests for #1. Only Roy jones has this kind of skillset (last 20 years) and although Roy was more athletic, Donaires is more technical and his ring IQ is outworldly. throw in Floyd in there but hes not as explosive as Donaire who can end a fight "early" with either hand
I think it's the body of work on the Martinez front (ie Pwill, Pavlik ect.). However, I generally agree with your post.
Yey i know what you mean Mares/Agbeko are both excellent fighters and close to top 10 pfp imo... But im almost worried for the winnner if he fights Nonito.
Martinez is number 2 p4p Donaire is somewhere in the top 7-8. I never had him ranked that high to begin with. The Darchinyan victory was so long ago that i had him outside my top 10. Montiel was on the back end of the top 10. He beat him impressively but the thing is you cant just have him skip over guys that have had the same success. Just like i cant move Martinez over Pac because Pac although he is fighting guys that are not top guys is performing well still. Bradley Klitchsko Hopkins JMM all top guys who havent really lost a step.
Agreed, take into consideration the potential of this kid under a steady guidance of Garcia. This can be another one of the Roach/Pac collaboration. Like you said, the difference is, Nonito doesnt seem to have some of the weaknesses that Pac or Sergio has. Its a mere question of how spectacular hes going to do it to Moreno, Mares or Agbeko.
