Both of these fighters had a great win against an all time great fighter and both lost to fighters they should have defeated. Rahman defeated Puritty when they met.

Puritty was one of the toughest fighters I have seen he was a big man with a short strong neck and always fought behind a high guard, he was also extremely fit with great stamina. His only TKO defat was on cuts to Vitali and in this fight he was still taking the fight to Vitali in the 11th and VK looked really tired. He was though a very predictable and limited fighter.

Rahman had better wins notably Lewis and Sanders, but was KOed a number of times.

    What do people here think.

It's gotta be the guy who took out the heavyweight champion at the peak of his reign.

Fluke shot aside, in shape or no, Lennox Lewis is one of the best heavyweights in history, and was fullstride atop the heavyweight division.

That's a great win, Boss lacked something similar, though he may very well have been capable of delivering in a similar situation(I look at his draw with Morrison).

    Beyond stupid thread

Puritty was a true journeyman that exposed fraud glass jawed Wlad

Rahman probably doesn't even rate his win against Sanders as something amazing yet Klit lickers do :rofl:rofl:rofl

I know we disagree a lot, but I laughed, because he probably doesn't

As stated, Rahman beat Purrity back in 1996, when he was still a novice pro.
Other than a few other reasons, we could go by that result to rate Rahman higher.

Rahman was world's heavyweight champion. Gotta count for something

I actually agree with you most of the time ... unless you think that Wlad is the GOAT and is the hardest hitter, most athletic, fastest and most skilled champion ever

    This is ridiculous

Rahman was a top contender a few weeks ago in the Klit era. He was a solid heavyweight and far better than any of the Klitschko's opponents. Would be an A level contender today if he was in his prime.

Ross Puritty was just a big strong guy with a great chin. A very crude, raw journeyman who beat the hell out of an olympic gold medalist future champion nearing his prime.

Nah, don't think that. He's just rather good, and worthy of his title.

What's ridiculous ? I agree, Rahman rates higher.
I don't think he's been a genuine top contender for years though. Not that that's relevant to this discussion.

Purrity was a notch or two below overall, but he had more than just the Wlad Klitschko win. I thought he beat Tommy Morrison, and he beat guys like Jorge Luis Gonzalez and Joe Hipp.

Wlad was nowhere near his prime when Purrity beat him. In fact the current version of Wladimir Klitschko would have easily destroyed any version of Ross Purrity. Purrity beat Wladimir about 8 years before Wlad hit his best fighting days.

This is not a valid comparison. Rahman was a legit champion.

What i like with Purity is he was never knocked down and only VK beat him on cuts and that was his only stoppage loss. And in that fight he was still giving it all.

Rate them on who was the better fighter, not on record or head to head.

Near their primes and b4 their primes Puritty was legitim8ly stopped 1 time , Rahman was 3 times .

I rank Puritty above Rahman .
Even Puritty's opposition was not worse than Rahman's overall , and Rahman's opposition was among de 10 strongest ever @ HW .
