Sugar Ray's resume is leagues ahead of Tunney's

Since he retired, no one has had a better resume than Leonard. p4p he's greater. You can't say head to head, Tunney would have whipped him. We are talking about a welter vs a light heavy, or a middle vs a heavy.

    Tunney was very skilled too.

Tunney actually dimmed his star by retiring too soon. ( age 31 ) He could have to meet Schmeling, Sharkey, maybe even Baer. I'd pick him to win all three.

His resume is possibly better, though it's far from certain.

For the record, I rank SRL as greater than Tunney.

    But you wrote:
    And this is wildly off.

Tunney twice defeated one of the best heavyweights of all time and has an excellent resume at LHW.

He would destroy the much smaller Leonard H2h.

Dempsey was past it, coming of a 3 year lay off and unmotivated.

Beating Hearns at 147 is more impressive.

SRL, a welterweight, wouldn't have a ghost of a chance against Tunney.

In fact, you could say with near certainty that he would get KO'd in the first couple of rounds.

Floyd is greater than Mike Tyson by a good number of spots.

But he wouldn't last a round with the Iron man.

Dempsey would have KO'd a prime Leonard........10 years after Dempsey retired !

There's a reason the sport has weight classes.

Tunney easily. SRL is overrated. Tunney has far more wins, far BETTER wins, never stopped, and has won rematches, something Leonard avoided, especially if the opponent was in fighting shape. Tunney top 20. Leonard near the bottom of the top 50

You're exactly right JT. Just when everyone thinks I;m nowhere near and it's safe to go back in the waters, that's when I come out for my feast.

Haven't you noticed my pattern? I repeat it every few months. :tiburon:

    I'm hungry!

I was liking your list, but.... Moorer, #11??? Was that a little joke to see if people were paying attention? Moorer arguably doesn't crack the top 11 Light Heavyweights. And, in my opinion, he is not an ATG at all. (Admittedly, he was a very good fighter, and should make Canastota)

Does anyone consider SRL's best wins to be better than Tunneys wins over Greb and Dempsey?

Leonard's win over Hearns is probably better.
On paper his wins over Duran and Hagler are maybe as good. But I didn't think he won the Hagler one, and the Duran one was just weird.

How come? I think they are both elite level wins, I'm just curious to hear your reasoning.
