No. Thats your opinion. I'd say a brilliantly skilled fighter is a greater fighter than a fighter who earnt more and beat better opposition. It doesn't go hand in hand due to politics of boxing.

Its all subjective in the end.

how about a hypothetical match up between

Sugar Nicloai Valuev vs Ricardo Finito Lopez.

Valuev always had a height and reach advantage.

    Lopez in most cases did.

    Who wins?

You laugh - wrongly - but that is a lot easier to substantiate given it is down to skills :patsch

Is Cotto more skilled than Margarito? Loyd Honeyghan more skilled than Don Curry? A fighter can be as skilled as he wants, but if he doesn't have the fighting mentality, a strong will to win, and a big heart then he won't be going all that far. This has been proven, time and time again.

I think your way of ranking fighters is flawed.

Ok, I was making assumptions you knew what I meant. What I was trying to say that a fighter with the ability to beat the most people is the better 'fighter' than the fighter who fought and beat the better opposition on their career, but may not have been able to beat the level of opposition the fighter with the ability to beat the most people could have been able to. This is down to the politics of boxing. Therefore the make-up of a fighter > resume when it comes to ranking a fighter IMO.

well done Hozumi's Hook. You've made point after point, you were unbiased, and the dumbass just keeps arguing. I think everyone learned a lesson today thanks to you.

Addie, I was going to bite and try to reason with you, but Hozumi's Hook has done so well being patient while dealing with you. Please, you should really dismiss yourself now.

How do you know Lopez was so skilled when he was mostly fighting bums? He didn't even beat a HOF'er let alone an ATG. So of course he's going to look extremely skilled against far far far far lesser opposition.

Commando almost makes a good point.

Ricardo Lopez was regularly fighting sub-par opposition, and this gave him the opportunity to look very good. I'm not suggesting that it was all smoke and mirrors, only that had he fought the likes of Michael Carbajal or Humberto Gonzalez, then we may have seen some of his limitations more frequently.

We both clearly use different criteria when ranking fights so that discussion can't really serve a purpose, I'm sure you agree.

Calzaghe fought HOF'er past their best (Eubank), and ATG past his best (BHop) and an ATG that is shot (RJJ)

So compare the skills he showed in the Kessler, Reid, Mitchell, Brewer, Lacy fights to Ricardo Lopez skills.

Lopez has shown counter punching, fighting on the back foot, control of range, fighting at bay

Calzaghe hasnt shown them skills even against **** opponents to the level of Lopez.

Calzaghe main form of attack was high work rate mid range slugging/slapping. Hasnt been any versitile than that. Thats his skill level.
