Roy Jones easy! Roy has a better resume than Pac people! Just look at the facts! Jones only fought one scrub and that was Frazier the police officer and he fought him bc he was the mandatory and Roy wanted to keep his title. Roy Jones has fought and beat the hell out of more champions, former champions, and current champions. Hill, Toney, Hopkins, Griffin, Vinny Paz, Garcia, Tate, McCullough, Tarver, Ruiz, Woods, Johnson, DeValle, and a few more. Most of the guys I mentioned would destroy any fighter on Pacs record and Pac would lose to a prime Toney, Hopkins, Hill and griffin.

Exactly no matter how good you look it's who you beat that truly should be a testament to a fighters lasting legacy. How often have we seen fighters with great natural ability look great against a certain level of opposition but when they stepped up were found wanting.

Hamed looked great before he fought Barrera, Tito was already a great fighter and looked just as good at middleweight after beating Joppy but when he fought Hopkins reality hit home.

Maybe if Jones had fought the very best out there consistantly like Holyfield and De La Hoya then maybe he wouldn't look so invincible in his prime.

Did you have Pacquiao losing a round to Hatton? Which one, the one where he knocked him down twice, or the one where he knocked him out?

Weirdly enough, I think the fact that Jones' career can be broken down so easily into two distinct peroids has probably helped his ATG status. There isn't a lot of seepage, clouding the waters of his greatness. The first Tarver fight was when that later, embarassing, peroid of decline began. At the time I felt Tarver won the fight and was robbed. When I rewatched it and scored it, I had it a draw with Jones' probably deserving the decision more.

However, and even though I'm a Tarver fan, as you say, Roy wasn't right, that whole escapade up to HW really ended him as a serious fighter. Funnily enough, I remember after Ruiz he was talking about fighting Tyson then calling it a day, win, lose or draw that would have been perfect, and also it would have spared his lifelong fans the indignity of watching him get old and beaten up by guys who'd have never laid a glove on him in his prime.

As for the Pac or Roy debate, I'd probably go with Roy being the better fighter. Yes, Manny has the better names on his record, more belts at more weights and more stellar wins. But Roy was peerless in his prime. Pac is a phenomenon, but Roy was Superman.

I do think that De La Hoya is greater than both Barrera and Morales because of everything he accomplished, but I do agree with you thinking back on it that Hopkins was Green when he fought Roy Jones.

Pacquiao has a few more "names" on his resume. P4P you have to go with Roy. Overall it is fairly close, but I'd take Roy over Pacquiao. (I may be biased as watching Roy in the 90's is what got me into boxing and I was constant awe of his ability).

This chin stuff is old and idiotic regarding Roy. The man was past his athletic prime, combined with the big jump in weight when he finally got beat by a KO punch. It's ****ing stupid honestly. If you hold that against Roy, then it's just as fair to hold Pacquiao's early KO losses against him right?
