kirk, look at the list of fighters up there. There's alot of good ****ing fighters there, and big disparity in the polling. Cotto isn't getting that level of support because he's exciting or exceptional and you know it. He's getting that level of support because people like the sweet taste of his ball sweat. Pacquiao is the only guy in the same neighborhood numbers wise, and he's perhaps the greatest fighter of our time. Figure it out. I'm being REAL. That's what I'm being. Cotto is your favorite fighter. If he wasn't, you might have a different view on this. AHEM.

Casamayor would be the only guy I would root for against Pacquaio. I'd want Pac to beat everyone else.

ah, i see what your saying :good, and was wondering where the underlying hostility towards cotto (hope not another baseless implication on my part) was coming from.

But i cant agree because i am one of them that put Cotto.

Cotto is my favorite not because hes the best, not because hes the most exciting, and not because hes done anything that is out of this world in terms of accomplishments, hes my favorite for all the little things that a fighter becomes a favorite for. Im not going to sit here and say someone shouldnt be fans of the ATG's that are around like mayweather, but to me its more then just 'how good is this guy' and however good he is, well thats how much im going to like him.... it doesnt work like that for me.

Cotto was one of the first fighters i actually saw come up through the ranks, watching him fight bazan as a prospect, then moving up in class, fight after fight people thought he would lose against certain fighters (judah, quintana, mosley), i remember yelling like crazy during the torres fight, and when cotto fought his way through that, how happy i was... i remember when on ESPN when judah was talking all the trash in the world and how it didnt faze cotto one bit, and how different that was from me and all my other favorite fighters who cant remain cool to save their life sometimes lol (vargs, mayorga) he remained the silent killer he was at the time and then proceeded to administer a surgical beating on judah within the ring.

There are hundreds of little things throughout a fighters career that eather steer you towards that fighter as your favorite, or not... and although im dissapointed with the margarito, clottey and pac fights, im not going to just put in a fighter whos on a winning streak right now, or more exciting (matter of opinion anyway), or one that is levels above cotto in terms of ability.... because to me, its not about that (one look down my top 10 favorite fighters could tell somebody that)

and so since i know why i chose cotto, i cant blame others for doing so.... i dont think there is a rule to follow or a standard that needs to be met for a fighter to be ones favorite, or a level that needs to be reached. Hence why i like Vargas more then Hoya, Miranda more then Pavlik, Cotto more then Margarito, Ward more then Judah, Morales more then Pac, Hagler more then SRL, Frazier more then Foreman, ect,ect.... even though each one of those the other fighter showed to be the better. Because to me its not about any of that, its about how youve come to like that fighter for various reasons that for me include how youve seen them come up, how they are as people and if i relate, how their style is in the ring, and if i relate and like how they fight, ect, ect.

just imo.... but i suppose i can understand how someone without the fan connection to that certain fighter can ponder why and maybe get fustrated with how one can pick fighter a over fighter b... but i can only speak for myself. Your implication as to why someone would put them as being that its a 'fanboy' pick is an attempt to seperate it from other picks as if they are 'not' fanboy picks... when in reality, almost everyone who would root for one fighter over all others is doing it, the only thing that change are the reasons, and i for one am not going to sit and judge and critic why ones persons reasons for liking a fighter doesnt measure up to anothers. (to a certain extent at least)

Makes sense. Cotto has one of the bigger followings of any active fighter. I absolutely didn't expect that to change because of recent events. The appeal of a certain athlete or celebrity can be a somewhat mysterious thing - or collective thing, as you say. Still, there's a certain vagueness to it with Cotto... One thing is certain though; somewhere in there is an attraction to his macho image. It gets really personal for his supporters when anyone has anything dissenting to say. It's not like the other fan followings. The other fighters you mentioned place it for me as far as your taste, and I tend to see you as a more dedicated fan of his anyway. It's some of those other folks that are all emotional. It's strange. Benny for example, gets real worked up. He's a solid guy otherwise. Good post.

You're the only one talking about his "macho image" and "hawtness" and "licking sweat from his balls" Why is that? Gay much?

I root for Cotto not only since he represents Puerto Ricans, but he's a good fighter whose fought nothing but the best competition out there with pretty damn good success. His outside the ring behavior is exemplary and never talks bad about his opponents. These same attributes is what makes me root for Pac and if he ever fights Mayweather I will root for Pac (even though I firmly believe Mayweather will win).

If you wish to hate on a fighter's fans, hate on *******s. They believe he can KO Hearns - show me ONE cotto fan who has said something so ridiculous as this...I'll wait.

From that list I'd say either Haye or Cotto.

You inserted the "licking." Why? Can't fool me. I've been here every step of the way with this thing. Don't even try to tell me there isn't some sort of man-worship element to this. Bitches swing on his nuts too. It's all for the same reason. Tell me some other ****. I know you have to.
