atsch Ali was off balance a lot of times, but his opponents were too slow or didn't have the reach to capitalize. lewis would of taken advantage of this in a huge way. some times i wonder if people are watching the same fighter as i am. some times i even wonder if people are watching the same sport. :-(
if beating every style consists of being "slow and limited" then yes, he beat every style. the amount of fighters he fought that were lewis and vitali like was astronomical.
Muhammad Ali had the character and the brilliance throughout his acreer. Joe Louis is the quintessential cornerstone of the whole HWT Boxing stucture built until this point.
Exactly my sentiment pal,you really don't know what you're talking about. Ali had great balance he was a great athlete. If you want an example of an unorthodox fighter who had poor balance then go to Hamed,he found himself on the canvas several times through poor balance, that never ever happened with Ali. I can never recall Ali ever slipping to the canvas or stumbling around in there in his whole career he had beautiful footwork,he was always in control. I've heard quite a few criticisms aimed at Ali some legitimate but never that he had poor balance. I can only assume you're one of the 14 year olds who inhabits this board and has hardly seen any of Ali's fights
off balance, like naseem hamed? naz was a featherweight so came up against fighters with speed that could take advantage of it. ali came up against fighters who couldn't. that is one of the worst comparisons that i have ever had the misfortune of reading. :deal ali used to lean right back all the time leaving himself off balance. put a fighter in there that could take advantage of this, then you have someone who's hitting the canvas quite a lot. :deal yeah, you're right, i've never seen an ali mukmuhammed fight in my life. i was only born yesterday you see.
Ali's style was unorthodox.....from a classic boxing style standpoint. He would lean back when he wasn't supposed to....he would keep his hands by his waist...he danced instead of using angles.... Now I agree he was a great athlete with great coordination and balance but be didn't have a typical "orthodox" boxing style....its part of what made him so effective...Ali was also a great talent with a lot of physical gifts that allowed him to fight with that styke that would get the average person knocked out. Louis was a classic boxer with a strong foundation....his skill set was beyond his time and his dominance was remarkable....not to mention unmatched.
patterson is one opponent, the rest were slow as hell. liston did have the reach, but not the speed. that man was one of the slowest heavyweights i have ever seen.
There were A LOT of fighters capable of putting Ali on his ass......if they could only figure out how to take advantage of all those "mistakes" that Ali made while in the ring. The problem was Ali was operating with a higher level of talent than all of his opponents at the time....he was faster, more agile, and his very unorthodox style made it difficult for his opponent's to capitalize on "mistakes" other fighters could never get away with. The mistakes Ali made were NOT mistakes if he was doing it....it worked with his attributes and tools he was working with. That's what made him the force he was....Ali was a puzzle very few could figure out.
Tough one the Brown Bomber was more of a complete boxer than Ali ...Tough to call but I lean towards Louis ..
