A bit churlish to call him overrated because of his unique difficult style. I do sympathise with your point because his fans those we know as the Lomasexuals overrate him.

I feel like Loma went from being a little overrated to now being slightly underrated. His loss to Haney was fairly controversial, and if that decision had gone the other way, he’d be undisputed at lightweight. And you have to keep in mind that he is really a natural featherweight. He entered pro boxing at a fairly late age and was already in his natural weight class, unlike a guy who turns pro at 18 and has years to slowly move up in weight as his body matures. I do admit he was likely overrated at one point but he’s generally always fought the best competition available, all his losses have been close, and he’s still fighting at a high level despite being pretty old (and small) for the weight class he fights in. The only fight he really disappointed me in was the one against Teofimo. And although he did almost nothing the first half of the fight, he pretty much dominated the back half of the fight. I’m not saying he should have won, just that he had a really bad strategy and could have won if he’d just picked it up a few rounds earlier.

At HW Fury and Wilder are the most overrated. Wilder was touted as equal to or better than Joshua when he couldn't even beat the likes of Povetkin or Parker, and Fury is still being talked about as the greatest HW on the planet despite getting beaten up by Ngannou and avoiding Joshua and Usyk like the plague.

Man please! If Ward was an English fighter or from the EE, he would be better respected by those fans than the US fans. He would be considered a no nonsense fighter that is gritty, tough and rough. He would be loved.

GGG was crazy overrated. Tbh though I kinda miss the 3G era though, it made for interesting debates.

Definitely Mayweather and Pacquiao for me. Other than maybe Ali they’re universally regarded as the two greatest boxers ever by non boxing fans

In this thread, people will probably have been going for mainly active fighters, and a few different ones, too. This isn't really it IMO. People are just angry about what they don't like day to day.

The most overrated fighter in the history of this forum must be Manny Pacquio. Post-2000 the internet began to swell with Pinoys and they coalesced here between 2006 and 2010 and it was just unbelievable. There were dozens of these guys and they all fiercely believed that Manny was the GOAT; the best feinter in boxing history; the best puncher in boxing history; the best chin in boxing history - you get the point. In addition you had the usual, the normal overrating of a great, hugely successful fighter. So in addition to the Pinoys, Manny had the normal crew of Americans, Mexicans, British in two who were spellbound and wanted to believe things that were not true. It created an insane groundswell.

Next, I would say Antonio Margarito. The AM mafia on here were absolutely real. People were stunned when Shane destroyed him - that's one of the most memorable nights on boxing's internet for me because it was all forums and it was insane. People just had emotional collapses

Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto were also insanely overrated on here for spells.

Irl, Mike Tyson, who Bobby Czyz, for example, thought was the best HW on the planet in the early part of the century despite all evidence to the contrary. He was not alone.

I think Wilder certainly has to be mentioned as someone who gets a lot more attention than he deserves.
I still don't think his much vaunted knock out power is as devastating as it's made out to be.

The fact he was able to avoid so many guys in and around the top 5 for so long as WBC champion doesn't chime with this supremely confident guy with vicious k.o power.
I say he's "overrated" because who did he really beat, or even face, and how many genuine elite level operators did he actually knock out?

In fact, one might say that the only times he's ever really stepped up and actually faced live opponents with something about them he's lost (perhaps, Ortiz aside...and that's being generous if you want to say he's a good fighter).

Maybe, Wilder was too focused on America and didn't want to travel, and the dire state of heavyweight boxing in the States didn't help?

I'd also say, ironically, that Fury is also somewhat overrated.

His résumé is very average for someone who makes such bold claims, and he also seems to be have gotten through his career avoiding most of the top guys.
This is why, for all his faults, I at least give Joshua some credit for facing a lot of the guys in the top 10 (even if you might not rate them).

I mentioned these guys because they are on my mind at the moment, but, let's face it, we could sit here all day naming fighters we think are overrated and the reasons why.
