I had Joe beating Hopkins too, that fight wasn't that close either. Hopkins should be ashamed at how badly he fought. The faked low blows, the holding, etc. You need to throw more punches too if you want to win.
This sums it up pretty good. I scored it for Hagler first time I saw it, but noone can claim robbery in this fight. It was THAT close.
I thought it was a draw when I first watched it. Last time I might have scored it 115-113 Leonard. It was a very close fight and I don't think you can call it a robbery. Hagler didn't fight the right fight, that's for sure. He is the man at middleweight. Don't forget Leonard got away with the big gloves, large ring, and 12 rounds instead of 15. Rounds 13 to 15 would have been Hagler's.
As much as I like Hatton, I think he lost that fight, Collazo battered him for most of the late rounds, and the early rounds were very debatable.
this is the fight i have watched more than any other in boxing. i love both fighters. i scored it 115-113 for leonard. i didn't think hagler did enough to justify winning this fight.
This fight was extremely close, but I had Leonard up by one round. His flurries were very effective, contrary to popular belief, and did land and score repeatidly. A very smart fight by Leonard. I don't understand why Leonard gets **** for this fight, when he took it after 3 years inactivity and above his natural weight. Duran was more active when he fought Hagler, and that fight wasn't as close as the cards suggested. Duran earns many kudos for being competitive with Hagler, but Leonard ultimately deserves more for beating Hagler considering the circumstances.
I can never understand how Leonard supposedly lost this fight. Just seems like the typical nuthugging of 'aggressive' fighting anyway. 7 - 5 to Leonard, 8 - 4 to Leonard to me. A lot of people think that's way generous these days, but the commentatiors and one of the judges had similar scores. Leonard's flurries may have been the difference...but before those it's not like Hagler was winning the rounds anyway..and they were pretty impressive flurries..made Marvin look like an oaf.
Leonard!!!!! Dont compare Leonard to joe "slappy happy" calzaghe. Leonard had alot of power behind those flurries and had Hagler thinking twice before entering. Joe aint got no power. Wax on wax off would go good with calzaghe cause he probably could polish a car better and faster then anyone. Bernard beat calzaghe without a doubt. I couldnt give rounds to calzaghe cause he couldnt land and the punches he throw were some of the sloppiest and ugliest in *HISTORY*!!!!
