i havent watch it since fightnight, but i think hagler won it,he ,was the far more aggressive fighter, and scored a lot.I dont think leonard did enough to win it.
If you want to score it on punch volume , i have Ray just edging it.. If you want to judge it on punch effectiveness , i have Hagler shading it.. If you are absolutely impartial, and lookeing at every angle and weighing the if and or buts.. I have to say i have tallied it as a draw more than once. Marvin lost the popularity contest , but was on the way to winning the war of attrition, without the flash and bang of any fireworks..
Helluva post bro, and Hagler giving up the first 4 rounds and fighting conventional is one of the bigger mysteries in boxing for me. Also, if you remember, this fight was about Ray surviving which made it even more puzziling as to why Marvin started off SO SLOW.... I've watched this fight and Tyson-Buster Douglas more than any in history and it gives me the chills everytime., Just listening to Barry Tompkins in that 12th round with Marvin whaling on Ray on the ropes and when Ray gets out of trouble he screams, "off the ropes, Leonard fighting off the ropes, total silence, crowd going ape****, classic **** there bro:rasta .....:yep
I only just got round to watching this fight for the first time, on youtube so not the most clear but i ended up having it for Leonard 116-112. This might sound too wide but one or 2 of the very close rounds I nearly scored for Hagler. I am surprised how clear it looked to me that Leonard won after all the controvery I had heard.
Yep -- Haglar screwed the pooch on the first two rounds. For years I thought Marvin was robbed, but I watched it recently and came to a different conclusion. Haglar did the opposite in the first Antefuermo fight. That's another one where a lot of people thoght Marvin won, but in truth, he more or less coasted for the last couple rounds, and it cost him big.
