I have to agree with that, he was pretty much a giant, and not an overly handsome one at that. You're starting to get into Andre the Giant territory with him.

    Not particularly.

When I was a kid I saw Andre the Giant once, and prior to Davey Boy Smith, Brett Hart and the Dynamite Kid, joining the WWF (WWE now) I use to watch them fight out of Stampede Wrestling, which is out of Calgary.

But no I can't say I'm a huge fan. When I was a kid I liked it, then hated it when I found out it was fake, then started appreciated the athletic aspect of it when I realized fighters such as the Dynamite Kid are now in wheelchairs because of landing wrong when they were flying off the ropes and fighters were getting hurt because they or their opponents missed their landing by a fraction. Then of course because of steroid use, many died prematurely.

I was also a huge Pride/UFC fan once upon a time, but I've sort of drifted away from it now that Fedor, Chuck Liddell, Anderson, and George St Pierre, Penn etc are no longer fighting. First fighter I saw in the UFC was Frank Shamrock.

I've also seen the Andre the Giant/Wepner fight more than once, it too is on youtube.

Yeah that's true. Also, Liston was towards the end of his career at that time.

I'm a VERY big fan of wrestling. I thought I'd grow out of it as I grew up, but I haven't! I actually prefer it to boxing as I think it's much more entertaining to watch. I wouldn't call it fake as much as I'd call it "scripted".

I "met" Tyson immediately post-prison.... I guess "encountered" is a better term for it. He didn't exactly lighten the room up...

Intense would be a nice word. His posse seemed more there to protect bystanders than Mike.

    Abe Simon.

Forget the tall guys and the muscle men. Simon was something more primal. Possibly the densest bone structure I've seen on a human being, he looks like something from the Stone Age.

Joe Louis was Simon’s biggest advocate.

He said that Simon was the only man that he ever found intimidating.

Surprisingly, he said that their first fight was one of the toughest of his career.
