Please define the time period for the current era?

In the last few years and in no particular order...

    Toney
    Mayweather
    Hopkins
    Wlad
    Ward

Only off the top of my head.

    Maybe Hopkins vs Pavlik.

Kelly was seen as one of, if not the best offensive fighter in the sport at that point, and Hopkins totally nullified him.

Totally forgot about Winky, but he's not relevant to the last few years.

Your punctuation is fantastic by the way, you're slowly climbing my list of favourite alts. Well done chum.

Mayweather, Hopkins, Toney, and Wright are automatics. There are a few candidates for that 5th slot.

Toney has to be at the top, a defensive genius in his prime. He completely clowned his opponents like Whitaker. But still got hit a lot though.

Mayweather can be spectacular but not in Toney's league. He rarely took risks like Toney.

Hopkins, Wlad and Ward. Byrd and Haye deserve a mention. Vitali and Marquez too.

If you go by statistics Mayweather holds records for punchstats. So I'd say he is the best -effective- defensive fighter.

Why are people mentioning Haye? At cruiser weight he faught offensively and at Heavy he beat no one of note, scraping a win with Valuev for a title.

Haye has very good reflexes and is very hard to hit cleanly
