Funny this topic resurfaces every 3 months or so: must highly bother the yanks that a British HW with a swagger sparked clean all their 90's dream-team big men division.

Mercer could hold a shot back then.

But the expression on his face in the later rds proved he didn't want being there. I guess he was pumped up for Lewis, but once in the ring told himself "Oh ****!"

It was a while since I last watched it but I remember scoring it for Lewis by 1-2 rounds. He did enough to edge it.

Certainly a fight Wlad would be highly capable of winning. All that work w/ manny had paid off by 2011. I figure Wlad would throw more abs than any other punch to control the distance. And w/ Mercer's somewhat inconsistent performances, not hard to see a wlad win. But a top form Mercer would easily be 50-50 w/ 2011 Wlad.

Mercer Lewis reminds me of AJ Parker. I was routing for Lewis AJ, but felt very dissappointed with their performances. I personally scored both draws, even though general consensus seemed was AJ Lewis won. I think a rematch would have had a more clear win for both though.

Mercer and Mavrovich gave Lewis hell! Rahman knocked Lewis out cold and McCall TKO'd Lewis in the 2nd round!

Yeah Mercer had a good poker face in the ring didn't show much when hit cleanly but everybody feels pain. Even if he wasn't stunned nobody likes getting hit.

Also if Mercer was so nonplussed by Lewis shots he would of not pulled out of the rematch they signed. He wasn't that eager to rematch Lewis.

Mercer gave him hell, Mavrovic won 2-3 rounds at best, he was more a stubborn and irritating opponent who wouldn't lie down than a real threat.

I disagree. Lennox looked way more bothered by Ray's punches than other way around. Also, it's undeniable fact that 42-years-old totally shot Larry Holmes beat prime, undefeated, active 30-years-old Ray Mercer way more convinsingly than 31-years-old prime Lennox Lewis defeated overweight, inactive 35-years-old Ray Mercer, who hadn't won a fight in 30 months.

    Looool to yours.

Four punch combination at 2.12 in the fourth: the uppercut nearly decapitates Mercer, and he retreats hurt and looking to survive.

Another uppercut at 1.20 and a cross, again hurts Mercer.

(incredibly, Lederman gave the rd to Mercer!! Looool)

Mercer took the fifth rd off, so hurt was he.

If that is called "being hurt", then Holyfield hurt Lewis about 20 times in their fights (combined).

Mercer's look in his corner during rds was "Am going to be alive next rd?" lol

He looked to clinch all the time, but once inside, he would just hold on to Lewis and wait for the referee.

How many times Lewis feinted and Mercer reacted to it?

This fight is talked about only because Lewis was lackadaisical and the announcers were biased as **** for the home fighter, even giving him the rd (4) he was most hurt in the fight.
