Good fight, although saying FOTy could be getting carried away.

I think I'd probably have it a draw. Williams took round 3 with a strong second half, and Chavez did the same in round 4. Chavez was very lucky though, because that bit where his glove hit the ground in round 4 should have been called a KD. (Then again, round 2 looked like more of a slip, so it evens out.)

    mexican-black guy
    10-8
9-9 --KD looked mostly like a slip but I gave credit. Overall damage wise he still won the round
10-9 --black guy had more aggression, but mexican landed the more telling punches
9-10 -- good round, wouldn't argue it going to the mexican

If I scored the 2nd for the black guy I'd have a draw but overall the mexican was putting in the better work and damage even though a lot of his punches were wild and was being made to miss.

i think that was a legit Knock Down. it was a delayed reaction similar to Gamboa-Salido. i had that a 10-8 rounder

Despite the draw, I do have to say that Chavez had better technique and more consistently hurt Williams... the problem is that the knockdowns cancel each other out and Williams outworked Chavez down the stretch in round 3.

That said, Chavez' people should work on him adding more variety to his punches. He kept trying to step in with the same 1-2, and Williams started looking for it. You notice that when Chavez did something different like lead with the right or a hook he tended to catch Williams off guard since Williams was looking for and trying to time the 1-2.

Adding in a few uppercuts or body punching, or even just some more angles instead of stepping straight in would have helped Chavez a lot.

yeah chavez did land the more meaningful blows even tho he was sloppy at times. williams throws his shots to wide and keeps his hands down too much. they both have a lot to improve on. but hey, its only their first couple of fights. good stuff from both tho.

It's legit. During the replay you can see the rear foot in the air as he got hit and made him slip but it's still a knockdown because of the hit. I still think he did more damage and clean punching overall that round hence my 9-9
