RJJ - big money fight for Calzaghe and a nice scalp on his resume, despite RJJs age/past-it-ness

    Roy Jones Jr.

He beat a couple of young lions in Lacey and Kessler, and what happened? Everyone that was singing thier praises beforwe turned around and said that they weren't that good in the first place.

**** it then. Get the big name on the books, weather he is shot or not. Not to mention there is a ton more money.

I can see it now: "Yeah Calzaghe won 9 rounds against Pavlik, but Pavlik was a bum who got knocked down by Germain Taylor. This proves nothing. Calzahge needs to beat King Kong, Godzilla, Chad Dawson and a locomotive."

I dont think anyone, including Bute's manager, close personal friends, or even Lucien himself agree with you

I would love to see him fight Chad. That would be a hell of a fight.

I would like to see him fight Chad Dawson, because I think the winner of that fight would truly be the best at 175. I also wouldn't mind if he decided to fight Tarver next and shut his mouth from all the trash he talks.

According to the poll, most people want Calzaghe to fight RJJ next which to me suggest that they prefer Calzaghe to fight for the money rather than for the legacy. Fighting and perhaps beating a well passed prime RJJ doesn't do much for one's legacy. But I can't blame Calzaghe. Boxing is a hard sport. Who is anyone to say that he shouldn't fight for the money? Put yourself in his shoes for one moment, and you'll completely understand why a fight with RJJ makes sense for Calzaghe. Besides, a Calzaghe vs. RJJ fight would be fun for fun sake since RJJ is in semi-retirement and has about a year left before calling it quits forever.

Agreed. Also overlooked is that in the time it will take Calzaghe and Roy to actually fight, Pavlik and/or Dawson can make bigger names for themselves to be in a better position to call out Joe for one last fight. It's that much bigger a proposed fight if either one racks up a couple impressive defenses or wins a unification fight in the meantime.

Maybe he should have a farewell fight against Jaidon Codrington, if anyone will go down to one of those brush strokes it's definitely 'The Don'. :yep

So, what you're saying is that if Dawson beats Tarver and/or Pavlik beats Abraham before the end of 2008, their names won't be worth anything more? :patsch

Let the young dudes get a little more meat on their resume, then make the fight.

Kelly Pavlik!!!!! seriously who the **** cares about Roy Jones!!! If anyone beats Jones from here on out what will it mean for their standing or legacy??? NOTHING, RJJ is so far past his prime that any victory on him will be so unimpressive and forgettable. Its like Hector Camacho beating Sugar Ray Leonard's ass like who the **** cares???:rofl :rofl :rofl

    PAVLIK OR RETIRE
