For me Wilder has been emphatically dealt with so I have no interest in it whatsoever. The best fight is probably Usyk but not realistic due to him being mandatory for Joshua (and with matchroom). Whyte probably deserves his WBC shot by now and would be a very entertaining build up. In the ring Fury could make Whyte look very, very stupid unless he’s dragged in to a brawl which would then be a very entertaining fight.
He should beat Whyte albeit it’s got the potential to be a fun fight. Usyk is the one with the big questions around him but I’d like to see him bed in a little more at heavyweight. Personally I’d be pleased with any one of the Whyte/Povetkin winner, Usyk if we can get another fight between them somewhere down the line if Usyk improves, Parker, maybe even Ruiz if Ruiz doesn’t weigh 400 pounds these days. The world needs Fury Wilder III like it needs a sequel to Battlefield Earth. Empathetic rematch wins don’t always need to happen again. We didn’t need Lewis Rahman III or Holyfield Moorer III. Wilder’s been exposed.
Usyk is the only one of the current crop high up the rankings that provides a real test for Fury - the rest are cannon fodder for Fury at his best. Hopefully not too long before the winner of DDD v Joyce or genuine dangerous tests such as Bakole gets a chance. Whyte will be more dangerous than Anthony Hughie Fury Clinchko Joshua who has lost his heart - the mobile Tree would be easily chopped down in a fight with Fury. The thing that annoys me about the Heavyweight Division is Wilder and Joshua have virtually been able to handpick puddings for years now - the lack of opportunities for contenders to fight for the belt over the next year is shocking. About time a minimum of 3 fights per year is brought in for every belt.
100% what @Scissors has said. I think Fury avoids Usyk like the Covid pandemic and hopes that Joshua deals with him.
I think what Fury needs is ranked contenders. He's just had so few of them. For example, going into 2017 he was Ring Magazine champion and Joshua was ranked number 5. That year Joshua beat Klitschko (ranked number 1), and signed to fight Pulev (ranked 3) who pulled out hence the Takam sub. Going into 2018 Joshua is now ranked number 1 and beats Parker (ranked 3) and Povetkin (ranked 4.) Fury gets a draw with Wilder (ranked 2) and beats two nobodies. Then in 2019 Joshua loses and then avenges against unranked Ruiz as a late sub having signed to fight number 8 ranked Miller. Fury again fights nobody in the top ten. So not just picking names but picking names at the time they fought, Joshua has been in with (and beaten) the at the time number 1, 3 and 4 ranked heavyweights, and seen his opponent pull out when said opponent was ranked 3 and 8. Fury of course has the wins over Klitschko and Wilder, but after that he basically does not go near top ten ranked opposition. That needs to change to cement his status.
That's all well and good but without a win against Fury or Wilder then Joshua beating old past it Povetkin and Parker don't mean anything.
What this man said. With Fury only probably having a couple of years left I'd sooner see something meaningful, which means at the least one from the current top ten and ideally a different type of challenge, which Usyk or Whyte would bring. My worry is if the Wilder fight gets pushed back due to not being able to make enough via the gate we'll get some kind of Tom Schwarz make busy fight. I sometimes see this argument but I've never understood it. Are Riddick Bowe's exploits against Holyfield meaningless because he didn't fight Lewis? Or should we value each performance in its own right?
I think Fury would box rings around Whyte, Usyk and the other short plodders at HW. Parker would be a boring clinchfest. Have zero interest in seeing the mess that is Wilder on our screens again. I only want to see him fight AJ, that's it.
Oh, I know Joshua needs to fight Fury. I disagree about Wilder though. Who has he beaten in 40-odd fights? Ortiz and who else? Lewis never fought Bowe and he's an ATG and Bowe was miles better than Wilder. Trying to criticise Joshua if he never fights Wilder is like having a dig at George Foreman for not fighting Earnie Shavers. But the point being made was obviously that when you say 'old past it Povetkin' Povetkin was still the number 4 ranked heavyweight in the division, and Joshua had beaten opponents ranked 1 and 3 as well. It's not like he had a crack at Klitschko and then thought 'that was good - next up can I have some Albanian crusierweight, Joey Abell, and maybe a guy who sneaks top five all time Swedish heavyweights?' Don't get me wrong - Fury has the ability to beat all of the likes of Whyte, Parker, Povetkin and so on. But he still needs to beat them. Nobody wants more Otto Wallin fights.
I think we all want the AJ fight bar a few bedraggled Wilder loyalists, huddled together for warmth, shivering as they cluster round a dumpster campfire. The question is though who would you like to see him fight if the AJ fight can't be next, which for commercial reasons is probably very likely?
If not Joshua, then Whyte. I think Fury beats him but it has the makings of a very good fight IMO. For all his flaws, technically, I still think Whyte is a hard night's work for anybody.
Matchroom Troll pushing old man Pedvetkin and Paint Dry Parker - Jesus Wept. It is fine having a dig at Fury's CV but at least be consistent with his 'Man' being humiliated and battered all over New York by the fighting Pride of Burger King - a comedy gold moment in boxthing up there with the Usman Ahmed KO.
Agreed. Also - Whyte is the number 2 ranked heavyweight as per the Ring at the moment, behind Fury and Joshua. Would be a good tick in the box for Tyson, who has beaten only two top ten ranked guys in his whole career despite being a world champion for over four years.
