There's only a handful of fighters that I can imagine I'd want to see taken into deep waters. Fighters that have yet to truly be tested or just haven't been tested in a while on an elite level. And by tested I don't just mean "down on the cards"; I mean they get rocked, knocked down, are taking beating, or losing in an extremely competitive two-way fight. I want to see if they have the intestinal and mental fortitude to face adversity and make the proper adjustments. I want to see if they have the heart and brain of a champion. Recent examples I can think of, pass or fail, are Keith Thurman vs Collazo. While I think he passed, I don't think he was impressive doing it. Adrien Broner vs Maidana, Broner came up short. Danny Garcia vs Herrera, Matthysse, and Peterson; Garcia failed two IMO (or one, just looked poor). Here's who I want to see tested: Terence Crawford - I think a fight with Lucas Matthysse would be good for him in the near future. Gennady Golovkin - I don't think anyone at 160 will do it but I think there are some solid fights for him there. His ultimate test, IMO, will be fighting at 168 for the first time. Deontay Wilder - Povetkin, make it happen, "champ". Wladimir Klitschko - I don't believe he's been tested in a while, hopefully Tyson Fury delivers, I don't care who wins, just want to see a good fight. Anthony Joshua - I know he's being built up slowly, but he's got people calling him "the future". Enough cans and journeymen, face someone who puts up a fight. Artur Beterbiev - He looks to be the real deal to me, now I want assurance. Pascal? Andre Ward - He's had it easy the last few years, time to face some real competition. Move up to 175 and face Pascal, Stevenson, and the Krusher. Kell Brook - I think he's a top welterweight, really good, but his resume stinks. I'd like to see how he fairs against other top welters. He passed the Porter test with flying colors IMO. Mikey Garcia - Just get back in the ring. Who do you want to see tested?
Wilder. Still not sold on him. Crawford. Same. He's clearly very skilled, but his resume is lacking. Brook. Biggest joke in the sport after Wilder.
Ward against Kovalev. Spence against Porter or Maidana. Frampton against Rigo or Quigg on a smaller scale. GGG against Ward. Roman Gonzalez against Estrada or Inoue.
My wife, she looks slim, trim and juiced to me, it's getting to the point I'm looking behind myself before I sneak into the bookmakers.
I want to see Kovalev tested. Beating limited Pascal and geriatric Hopkins haven't proved anything to me.
I thought Pascal was a good test for him; granted he was never losing the fight. It'd still be great to see him have to dig deep.
Stevenson doesn't want to know. Add that to his resume, and there's not much more he can do to impress, I'm afraid...
Nothing at all in the pros. That still doesn't mean that he couldn't give Kovalev a boxing lesson at that weight.
Golovkin, Ward (I want to see him face someone technical, he's faced mostly basic, crude fighters), Lomachenko, Spence, Mekhontsev, Kudryashov, Frampton
Wilder. All he's fought are total stiffs, and limited beltholder Bermane Stiverne. All signs point to him being a fraud with a glass mandible.
