Plus speed, mobility... And size, peak Ali has ~15 lbs on Louis.

Ali decisions them all at the very least but Louis would undoubtedly stop every last one of them.

    Louis.

I concur. Skilled as Ali was, his firepower or lack thereof would make things difficult for him. Louis power was proven against SHW sized heavies.

I am not picking against Ali here, and I am certainly not questioning his ability to take a punch, I just feel that Louis answered a few questions that he didn't.

Ali rarely gave up a lot of weight to his opponents, while Louis often did.

Ali was usually stronger than his opponents, and it looked like he often relied upon this, while Louis was obviously fine against a much stronger opponent.

Is Ali going to be able to handle Lewis in the clinches, if he needs to hold him off?

I am not saying that Ali could not thrive against this kind of opposition, but we don't quite know whether it would work for or against him, while it obviously played to Louis's strengths.

First of all, absence of proof isn't proof. Just because Ali didn't fight a great 160 pound fighter, doesn't mean he couldn't be one, nor that Hagler would do better than Ali just because he did. There is a false analogy here that keeps on getting perpetuated.

No, it absolutely isn't, and frankly any doubt cuts both ways.

It has to be noted however, that Louis has a pretty strong argument on that basis.

He seemed to absolutely thrive against this type of fighter.

World class got them destroyed quickly.

Greatness would be their only hope.

"this type of fighter"? Abe Simon, Buddy Baer, and even Primo Carnera are not the same "type of fighter" as Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis, or Wladimir Klitschko.

Ali could use great glove control on Lewis the same way he did against Foreman, I watched Barry Robinson do a film study on it.

Maybe Louis would be too powerful, but he would have to KO them and probably early because he didn`t the chin like Ali did to take bigger guys punches.

I disagree. Louis completely dominated the super heavyweights he fought. The only time he faltered was against Buddy Baer in the first round and he hit way harder than the guys today.

The early rds are probably the only chance the the super heavies actually have against Louis. The more rds fighters go with him the likelier they are to be ko'd.

    Good stuff.

We need to get Perry's opinion on this, everybody does a shot each time he mentions the term 'ATG'.

Ali beats them all by either wide decisions or TKO. Louis knocks them all out. Ali is just too quick. Louis just too good a destructive machine.
