What fighters of the past does Wilder remind you of? He reminds me of guys like Julian Jackson and Danny Lopez, both of whom are also arguably the hardest punchers in their weight class, where they were one dimensional punchers who can be outboxed easily but their power can change the fight at any time. In a way his style looks like a more crude version of Bob Foster.
Rocky Marciano, a talentless brute with heavy hands, good chin, and exceptional stamina. Freddie Mills, a freakishly strong, durable light heavyweight champion who couldn't throw a straight punch and would flail at his opponents. Maybe other low skilled sluggers like George Foreman, Stanley Ketchel, Mike McTigue, Battling Siki, Bazooka Limon... Joe Frazier didn't have a lot of skills and was sort of a left hook machine, but he was a swarmer. Leon Spinks and Valuev for lack of skill, but Valuev was a light fisted arm puncher. On the other hand, I kind of want to say Roy Jones Jr. and Naseem Hamed because their physical gifts made up for their lack of form.
Reminds me of Monte Munn, who was an excellent athlete and could punch like a mule, but unfortunately didn’t have much else. He also reminds me of a prime Tony Tucker, who also had an excellent chin and a great right hand when he was drug and injury free. James Bonecrusher Smith when he would let his hands go is a similar sight to when Wilder windmills he opponents and he had similar power to Wilder, but unfortunately unlike Wilder Bonecrusher’s killer instinct was inconsistent, since some fights he had it and others fights his attitude was downright lukewarm.
Gerald McClellan. Different division and not as skilled, but over time McClellan devolved into a headhunter. They threw some of the same shots, too.
He obviously reminds some people of the bully who used to beat them up before school and take their lunch money, given their irrational hate for him.
He reminds me of a giant less skilled Bredais Prescott, the guy with a great KO record who put Amir Khan down and out.
