    Realistically.

If he beats Paulie, and then goes onto beat Pacman, do you place him as P4P #1?

His only loss has been against the P4P #1.

I don't think Hatton can do it. But I figure if Hatton wants to do it, he has to move up to 147 and beat some of the top conteders there.

NO.. He will always get koed on his way to No.1 P4P status. Too many fighters that are lot better than him.

If he had beaten Mayweather, I doubt any body could have seriously argued against him.

For him to do it now, I see it as follows:

    1. Malignaggi - consensus No. 1 contender at 140
    2. Pacquaio - WBC 135lb champ, consensus P4P No. 1
    3. Margarito - WBA 147lb champ, possibly No.1 @ 147lb - stylistic nightmare

Other than those, if that doesn't do it then I don't think anything can!

Margarito reminds me of the hatton of old except much bigger. I dont think Hatton could ever win that fight.

There is a road for him to do it> beat paulie, beat pac, then win rematch with floyd. These are all fights that he can POSSIBLY make happen.

Besides that, beat Paulie then two welter stars. >>
I know Hatton is not a natural welter but LW is pretty weak atm and you have to be able to contend around a couple of weight classes for pound for pound status. Hatton will never be able to do this because he wins via physical superiority over his opponents. Put him in against bigger guys and his weapon is nullified.

    >>>Pac fight wouldn't mean so much as everybody would just say pac was too small.

    They are pretty similar, but......

    Hatton has better footwork
    Hatton is better at mid-range
Hatton is better at delivering killer body shots

    Margarito has a better chin
Margarito is better on the inside
Margarito doesn't smother his own work

All in all, I would say P4P they are pretty even at their best - if Hatton could produce a performance like he did against Ben Tackie (working behind the jab off the back foot) then a victory wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility but he seems unable or doesn't want to fight like that.

If he tries his usual style against Margarito he would get destroyed in about 7 or 8 - if he tries the Cotto method it would be less, about 5 or 6 :deal

Thats as good a call as any, if those three were to play out then that would have my vote BUT......only a BUT.....

if Joe were to carry on after RJJ and face Pavlik / winner Tarver Dawson and win those fights then Ric would have to sit behind Joe for me !

I know im fantasising but i did just agree on Hatton / Margarito which is never gonna happen either !

If Calzaghe fails to beat RJJ handily he may actually drop down the P4P list a little.

If he carries on and beats Pavlik (which he most certainly would IMO) then Hatton may have to sit behind Joe. They have been #1 & 2 in the Brit P4P rankings since Lennox retired, for the most part Joe has been in front, especially since he destroyed Jeff Lacy and Ricky had a few below par performances.

If Pac beats DLH though and Ricky in turn beats Pac, then I would put that above Joe defeating a smaller man in Pavlik!

It also depends on what the likes of Vasquez do (does Izzy have much left after those three wars) and also JMM - he seems to have both eyes and ears on Pac ATM, and is unlikely to beat anyone in the meantime whilst Pac is busy that would elevate him further.

Pac Is way undersized and Hatton will just be seen as a guy who wins over smaller fighters If he fights Pacquiao anyway. He will easily walk through Pac.

Malignaggi's a negative champ despite having decent hand speed.

    Margarito destroys Hatton within 5.

Hatton was never that good, he chose the right opponents to fool people Into thinking he was p4p and elite which he was never either.

I think he would beat Malignaggi pretty easily either wide UD or late stoppage, whilst Pac would suffer death by ribcage whilst in front on the cards.

Margarito would probably be too big - Collazo was a pretty big welter who gave Hatton all he could handle being a stylistic nightmare, whilst Margarito is a massive welter who would offer a different stylistic nightmare but is much more relentless.

Margo, Williams, Spinks would make him number three. IF Mayweather came back and he beat him then no. 1.

Hatton is however not where I expect ot see the future no. 1 come from.

Better and more likely candidates are:

Pac (if he is not already), Pavlik, Kessler, Haye, Calzaghe (if he is not already) and perhaps Dawson (if his chin is better than some people seem to think).

Vasquez and JMM takin on board but if we talking Joe cleaning up any threat and Ric taking care if the best in LWW and Manny plus a 147 topdog then i would have still have p4p 1 and 2 in that order...bearing in mind Pac is the smaller man to Hatton too....
