I always liked Jerry Quarry, he was kind of like a blue collar fighter. He used to work putting on tires for Greyhound Buses in California before he turned to boxing. A very talented heavyweight who had the misfortune of having to face George Chuvalo, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, and Ken Norton. But he had good victories over the likes of Buster Mathis, Mac Foster, Floyd Patterson, Thad Spencer, Earnie Shavers and Ron Lyle. I thought he was by far a better fighter than his light heavyweight brother Mike. Jerry was a very good body puncher and a good counter puncher, but his weakness was his propensity to cut. But a very good contender.

They couldn't beat Quarry in a 2 on 1 fight. It would be like a lion vs two african wild dogs.

I am with Murrieta on this one, a lot of my memories around late 60s to mid 70s of heavyweight boxing sort of centered around Quarry, he always seemed to be lurking around 4/5 in the division, always in good fights ( well not for him, late in his career ) and gave the fans what they paid their money for action.
Dare I say, he was sort of ordained the white hope of that era, what with , Ali, Frazier, Terrell,Mathis, Spencer, Patterson, all on the scene at that time, so he was a Jeffries light, sort off. Also Quarry came in two incarnations, the first who fought around 65/68 was a slimmer more versatile fighter, quicker on his feet, moved in and out more, seemed generally a lot more lighter around the ring. Quarry of 69/76 was altogether slower of feet ( not hands so much ) seemed more willing to stand and trade, his physique had altered as well, no longer lithe and fit looking, more clumpy and slow, with much bigger arms and legs, either way, either era he was a very charismatic figure.

    When? In 1968?

If he beat those three, I don´t want to imagine what he´s doin with 1/2 strong Rocky Macaroni!

    Seriously....

When Liston beat Foreman in 1960s in sparing he gets cretid by you and his fans for backing George and because you could make bigger hype!
When Jerry did that well you pull all excuses!
Style makes fights yes he beat stronger Shavers with poor chin but Lyle and Foster chin and stamina were bad!
Marciano is harder puncher than Lyle and Foster, better chin,stamina,endurance,heart....
Style makes fights and Rocky preassure would be even more successful than Frazier!
Quarry could beat slow punchers with bad chin but not fighters that always keep coming!

Would you pick Foreman to slaughter Chuvalo, Frazier and Ken Norton, the fabulous three to put Quarry to sleep? .....

...btw, it already did the job, with your eyes still open....

Chuvalo,Frazier and Norton beat Ali and Quarry!

Tyson was far more skilled than Quarry and therew tons of hooks with either hand, he wa a much better combo puncher than Quarry and hit harder.
