Very rare do you see fighters with this kind of sheer coldness and mean streak along with devastating power. He just seems to enjoy inflicting damage on others even after killing someone in the ring years before. What other fighters are like that?

Reminds me of Monzon...I talked with Joe Rein aka John Garfield here on ESB, he said SRR had a killer mindset in the ring...and his fight against Bobby Doyle really didn't bother him that much.
I like to watch Kovalov box, but a mean streak really isn't new...Jack Dempsey comes to mind, and in his way, Ray Leonard would really try to finish people off.
People are used to more safety first fighters these days, and it seems fighters are more friendly towards one another...and maybe athletes across sports are too. Which is not a bad thing...I enjoyed watching Mayweather outsmart and out box people.

As I've studied boxing and learned more about boxing history I've come to learn that the Mayweather's and Whitaker's of the world are the minority of great fighters.

Most ATG level fighters are seek and destroy fighter who wish to just eviscerate their opponent and smile after doing it too.

I think now that Mayweather is no longer the cash cow and doesn't drive media coverage anymore we will see a return to how boxing always was.

It's always been about pain. Sometimes I feel guilty about it too. Since I'm such a big fan of boxing.

A bit like Holyfield at Cruiser.

He is very loose and a natural fighter.

Vlad as a comparison is incorrect as he is very robotic.

Kovalev is more awkward in his offense than was Holy @ CW.

His stalking approach, headstrong manner of punching and the way he loads up and bombards with either hand prepped to follow-up is a far cry from young/prime Holyfield's brand of aggression, which is more textbook and by the numbers.

He reminds me of a Pre-Ali Georege Foreman; Big, Strong and as dumb as an Ox.

Kovalev doesn't fight dumb like Foreman did against Ali, so bad comparison.

I like Kovalev not because of his punching power, but because he thinks in the ring. He is not some muscle memory type fighter. I think he can make adjustments to beat anyone. I think if you go in the ring thinking you are going to do a given thing against him, that you are going to exploit a weakness he has shown in some fight, you are going to get painfully outclassed.

House Kovalev's motto would be : All Men Can Be Krushed
