Ustinov has been a fat sack of **** for his entire career. No contender who declined to make a fight with him actually feared fighting him. He was Duhaupas level, at best.

I don't know why the Scott fight is being brought up so much. Ortiz won every round and Scott failed a 10 count at one stage IIRC but the ref just kind of ignored that.

Ortiz is good. He very nearly had Wilder out of there. I'm assuming there's a reason that Whyte didn't want to fight him to get his mandatory status against Wilder. The reason - to my eyes - is that he/Macthroom aren't confident of a win. I wouldn't be either.

Yep this is true, he could of gotten up but chose not too because Scott lacks the heart to tough it out when the odds are stacked against him and things get tough.

It's also why he chose to lie down vs Wilder. And I like Scott, thought his movement would give Chisora problems and predicted an upset, but I hadn't accounted for Scott's lack of heart. I still like Scott, when he doesn't quit he's actually a pretty decent heavyweight with some nice skills, he just lacks the power and grit needed to compete at the top level.

I don't know man, I'm not sure fighting two particularly poor to watch fighters is 'showcasing'. Even less so when one of those shows is in Monaco

Ortiz ducking Ustinov is just hilarious, can't believe it.

Ustinov is awful and always has been I agree with you there, but facts are facts. Ortiz pulled out twice from that mandated eliminator. First time they agreed terms but Ortiz pulled out at the last minute, so it then went to purse bids and Ortiz did it again and then Ortiz paid Goldenboy $1 mill to get out of his newly signed contract with them. He clearly didn't like the matchmaking or something and wanted out. He would of gotten a career high payday at the time of about $350K too for that fight but still didn't want it.

He then did little until Hearn threw him a bone and set him up with Scott and Allen to build a future fight with Joshua but again Ortiz did something stupid and went with Haymon and fought Wilder for a fraction of what the Joshua fight would of brought him.

The first fight was on the under card of a Joshua fight and it was still better than anything Ortiz was being offered at the time. Remember he had just paid $1 mill to get out of the Goldenboy contract, he had also settle a lawsuit with his previous promoter for breach of contract and was without a promoter and had gained a rep for pulling out of fights when he pulled out of the Ustinov fight twice. Promoters were not knocking on his door trying to sign him until Hearn showed up looking to build a Joshua fight.

Then why didn't he fight him? Why did he pull out at the last minute twice? Was he given a better opportunity? Nope he didn't fight for months after that and had no other options. Why refuse a career high payday?

I've never heard of a valid reason why those fights didn't happen. No injury, no better options etc.

Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

Like I said, Hearn didn’t want it. He might’ve had to do it anyway but Ortiz and his team ****ed up his mandatory status, and that’s on them. It’s not like a venue was secured or a contract ever created for him to fight Joshua, just a couple quick fights on short notice.

Did something stupid and fought for a world title? Maybe Haymon's guarantee was offered with more conviction than Hearn's, assuming Hearn ever actually offered him a shot.

Ustinovs camp refused to sign up for VADA testing so Ortiz didn't sign the contract on the other side.
The second fight was also scheduled to be in Russia in November 2016, i can understand Ortiz didn't want to fight in Russia a couple of months after Lucas Browne was fooled after beating Chagaev and tested positive for some **** he was poisoned with there. It was a smart move not to fight in Russia. Today nobody would say Whyte is ducking Pulev because he didn't fight him in Bulgaria.

    Ortiz didn't duck Ustinov.

Just a sidenote about Ortiz: he’s actually really quick witted and would basically be a superstar if from the UK or Mexican. Being Cuban doesn’t do him any favors.

How many ranked guys has Ortiz fought since Jennings? Is it just Wilder?

What about before Jennings? How many ranked guys did he beat before Jennings?

I'll take Ring, TBRB or Fightnews for the rankings guys. Anyone?

I saw all those fights, I wasn't impressed with Ortiz labouring 7 rounds with a fat, out of shape Dave Allen or his performance and going the distance with Malik Scott, was I suppose to be impressed?

Anyway, this wasn't the point, the point was.. tell me who Ortiz has beaten to justify a top 3 rating..

I was told resumes don't mean anything, It's all about the "eye test" well I said I wasn't impressed with Ortiz against those opponents I mentioned, then I was reminded that Whyte went the distance with Allen..

So now comparisons and resumes do matter.

So if they matter now and comparisons can be made then I ask again, who has Ortiz beaten to justify a top 3 rating.
