Possibly Joshua with the flat fee stuff that went on for ages https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...-promoter-and-he-should-be-luis-ortiz.611684/
Yes . But the fight in poland infront of all the ukrainian refugees there , the political speech of zelensky - a political speech in a sporting event !!! They needed to make sure usyk wins and against wilder you never know ... Thats was the reason usyk avoided wilder .
Hearn in April 2018: "Wilder isn't worth anything like 40%" No doubt any Hearn "offer" (assuming they weren't all totally bogus) included a one-way rematch clause and unilateral home advantage for Joshua, same as the Martin and Parker deals. The "flat fee" was a derisory lowball purely designed to stall negotiations for Matchroom's tactical advantage.
How is aiming to fight Tyson Fury, the man who beat Wilder, ducking Wilder?! Even disregarding that, Dubios was a mandatory. Usyk wants to become undisputed bit hard to do that losing belts.
Like said usyk would not be stripped of any belts when he would have fought wilder instead dubois on his way to undisputed , wba cleared that path . WHY usyk ducked wilder in 2023 nobody beyond usyk can say . I guess to much risk on the show infront the ukrainian refugees .
I'm not sure it's clear that Andy Ruiz ducked. He won his eliminator against Ortiz, he then knows next up is the final eliminator against Helenius (lol) or Wilder. The purse for which would be dictated by the WBC if an agreement could not be reached with team Wilder. Team Ruiz weren't happy with Team Wilder's offer---this was quite public. But they didn't have to accept. They can let the WBC decide the split. The next step was for the WBC to call the final eliminator. The WBC set the split, and only then if Ruiz says no, would it be a duck. To my knowledge the WBC never officially called that final eliminator. If they did, I missed some very big news. Did they set the terms for the final eliminator? If they didn't, why not?
This is all just conjecture and Usyk was pursuing a shot at Fury, the man that beat Wilder twice and holds the last belt. Usyk defended against his mandatory and is now scheduled to fight for the undisputed title, that’s all that matters. Wilder has fought 2 world class fighters in a 45 fight career, that’s it. He’s been highly inactive and if you think that these factors are down solely to people avoiding him, you are reaching.
Since i guess never in history ANY boxer admitted he ducked an opponent , anything regarding ducking is conjencture but in case of usyk 2023 it was as obvious as rarely when you get the facts . He might had good , unknown to us reasons for ducking wilder for the fight in poland .
All in all wilder is a boxer who currently might be ducked frequently . He has no belt to offer so the revenue fighting him is somewhere limited but for sure he is a massive puncher and dangerous . An opponent might outbox wilder clearly , win every round , be the better skilled man and then out of a sudden catch a bomb and wake up on the canvas with a loss . Many are not willing to take this risk when no belt is on the table .
Why would you bother fighting Wilder with no title when you can fight the man who beat him for undisputed?
You are right and i do not blame usyk here . For what should he take the risk to be suddenly knocked out infront of all his ukrainian fans when he can have with dubois an easier , less dangerous night ? He even renounced the way bigger money , popularity , undercard and show agsinst wilder to avoid the risk but nevertheless : this was an evident duck of wilder
Dubois refused step-aside, though. Usyk and Wilder learn Dubois' feelings on taking step-aside money | Boxing | Sport | Express.co.uk Hrgovic was pushing for his title shot with the IBF. The WBA said no, we're next up, Usyk has to fight our mandatory. Their mandatory was the WBA regular belt holder, Dubois. The WBA tried to give Wilder the chance to become the default mandatory by moving him to #1 above Martin Bakole and Michael Hunter. But Dubois didn't want to take step aside. And it was pretty obvious why---he knew by doing so he would have to wait for the WBA to come back around. i.e. behind the WBA fight, behind the IBF fight, behind the WBO fight, behind undisputed fight. Dubois will have been hoping for the financial windfall of step aside from Undisputed. The second-best option was to fight Usyk. Frank Warren Not Ruling Out Daniel Dubois 'Step Aside' For Fury-Usyk In July (boxing-social.com) All of this is to say, this wasn't Usyk's decision. There was no "duck". He fights Dubois or he gets stripped by either the WBA or the IBF, which rules him out of undisputed. And let's be honest here, that pot at the end of the rainbow is what everyone has been chasing for the last 4 to 5 years.
It's not a duck if you are instead chasing a better fighter in Tyson Fury, but in doing so had to fight a mandatory. Ducking would be fighting worse opposition instead, or avoiding your mandatory.
