    According to Steve Bunce Herol Graham was avoided. Anyone here have any info on which fighters avoided him?

    Marvin's name gets thrown around a lot by a lot of people, and I've heard Brendan say it too. I don't know if there's anything truth in it though.

    Just found this.

    Herol was Marvins wba mandatory around the time of the Hagler-Mugabi fight. Hagler was basically semi retired at that point and would of retired if not for an offer from Ray Leonard. So I would argue it was more bad timing that ducking

    They do say this about Graham and in a different era he would likely have made a decent belt holder.

    Hagler had all the belts during the time Graham was a legitimate contender. However, I wouldn't say Hagler ducked him, he just went for the bigger money fights. Also, Graham lost to Kalambay during this period and then, after Hagler retired, he lost to McCallum for a belt.

    I think Hagler had already retired by the time Herol lost to kalamby, because Kalamby would fight Barkley for the vacant wba belt.

    I'm told that Manny turned that fight down because Herol was unknown in America.

    high risk/low reward

    I thought Mugabi was rated nr.1 with all three (at the time) organisations :think

    I don't know. I do know that Herol was his wba mandatory around the time of that fight.

    I remember that Graham was thought of as an avoided fighter back then and you could understand why: Great skills, fast, good punch, little money. Prototypical of a high risk low reward fight.

    As I recall it he was in line for Leonard and others.

    In the end he got the shot at the big time against Jackson and that went very well untill the KA-BOOM.

    He was also a southy and they tend to get ducked to an extent
    I blame his management team. Surely they could of done more to raise his profile stateside?
    :lol::lol:

    That was one of my favourite Herol performances, shame about the ending

    Possibly. What I Can see is that Hagler was Strippped of the WBA a year later for not fighting Graham. And 1,5 year later Kalambay was stripped for the same reason.

    Hagler gave up the WBA belt rather than face Herol, to take the Leonard fight. Then Graham signed to fight Barkley for the vacant title, and decided on a 'warm-up' against Sumbu Kalambay.....
