Graham's problem was not having a decent promoter for the first half of his career and then going with the inept and dodgy Eastwood. He just struggled to get meaningful fights with other visible well regarded ranked opposition.Basically just tended to have to go the old school Brit\Euro route and try and wait on a shot from the high ranking his Euro belts gave him. Thus you get it being at least 8-9 years before he's even in contention. As for fighters that actually avoided him.Sibson is probably the main one, he was a bit more established, had better contacts and it wasn't worth the risk. Then Watson, Eubank, Benn all stayed away when they were on the way up, though Graham had got himself in the mix for world title fights by then and didn't really need them. Basically he has a case for being avoided on the British scene and just suffered from a lack of contacts regarding fights with foreign based contenders like Hamsho etc rather than being avoided per se
Graham was a skilled fighter and i think it made sense for fighters to avoid him because he would have given stylistic problems to anyone. He might have caused Hagler trouble for 7/8 rounds but i think Hagler would have got him eventually, and i think Hearns would have bombed Graham out early doors.
I agree... very underrated fighter, and as mentioned earlier, was giving Jackson all he could handle until Julian landed one of his signature BOMBS.
Hard fight to score, but it easily could of been scored either way According to Graham he asked McCallum for a rematch and McCallum turned him down.
Interesting fight, maybe Hagler could outwork him to grab the latter rounds and get the nod. I dont think Hearns hit as hard as Jackson, so Graham has more of a chance of winning by ud .
Steve Bunce is an overly patriotic rose tinted glasses hype job buying presenter like most of the uk presenters pretty clueless.
Hearns would have outboxed Graham and stopped him in the middle rounds, of that I'm sure. As for Graham ''giving Jackson all he could handle'' - understatement of the century It was ridiculously one-sided.
Dont know but i know one thing Hearns had that straight right hand that was nightmare for all southpaw fighters...
The southpaws that Hearns faced as far as I know are former world champ Saensak Muangsurin, and then Marvin Hagler. As for Hearns-Graham, I think the style is all wrong for Herol, Hearns was excellent against Benitez, and always outboxed boxers and counter punchers
