More than floored. In a 4 round exhibition match, Smith had Johnson down and dazed. Hardly a flash knockdown. Johnson's manager halted the fight.

Its a TKO, though not an official fight. The year 1909. Smith a novice. Johnson in his prime.

Smith who defeated Moran and Willard before Johnson gave them title shots, never got one himself. To quote Smith " and he never forgot it " referring to the punch that sent Johnson down. By 1911-1912. Smith was much improved. Why he did not get a title shot is worthy of its own thread.

    The irony escapes him!
See how he quickly turns a spar into a fight, with a tko result at the end of it!
When Marciano was training for Cockell ,Toxie Hall dropped him heavily in sparring and Goldman stopped the training for the day. Both Travis Walker and Renaldo Butler dropped Vitali Klitchko in sparring,Greg Page dropped Tyson . Bob Fitzsimmons was floored by Geoff Thorne and so on .
It's sparring ,as Marciano explained next day to a boxing journalist[Peter Wilson,]"it was a real good punch and he got me just right, in sparring you try different things."
Only a cretin would put undue emphasis on it.
